I'm 6 rows up behind their bench; not only no flop but Nivins knew it and apologetically said to Martelli (as far as I could decipher) sorry but I thought he would play right shoulder (indicating).
BTW the best flop of the year was Drew on St J first possession; he had position & was set but started falling down well before contact from Nivins.
Did Duncan flop?

Re: Did Duncan flop?
I was watching on TV and played it back. I don't think you can flop that hard and that fast backwards without some significant contact from the offensive player. Yes, you can "sell" a charge by just letting the contact bowl you over and not resisting, but Nivens clearly bulled into Duncan.
Correct call.
Correct call.

Re: Did Duncan flop?
Whether Duncan flopped or not it was initiated by hard contact an was no question an offensive foul. I've seen Josh flop before and the officials didn't call it and I totally agreed with them, but, in this case I don't think Josh could have held his ground if he wanted to.

first, I didn't get to actually watch the game, so this is just my thoughts on these fouls in general. There is a difference between flopping and selling. Very rarely do you ever see a charge where the person falls to the ground completely because of the contact. EVERYBODY sells fouls. I think the main thing is if he has his feet set and if there is contact. If there are those to things, you will almost always get the charge. I've seen refs start to call a charge almost a second before it happens because the defender is set, only to have minimal contact. Are there some questionably calls because of a tap that "sends" a guy flying, yes, but its all about what the refs see. I think its more in the setting of the feet then the contact.

Agreed. In fact Nivins almost jumped over him!joetitan wrote:BTW the best flop of the year was Drew on St J first possession; he had position & was set but started falling down well before contact from Nivins.

Re: Did Duncan flop?
No way that was a "flop". JD went to the ground WAY too fast for that to be a flop. He definitely anticipated Niven's move, held his ground and was completely knocked to the floor. One of the few GOOD calls of the game. X was getting held, grabbed and was a victim of moving screens all game. Credit to the players for fighting through it all and pulling off a big win.

Re: Did Duncan flop?
He absolutely did not flop.
Flopping is dishonest, unethical, and unsportsman-like and Duncan would never resort to "flopping" to get an edge.
Now teams that we play are loaded with these dishonest, unethical, and unsportsman-like players!
That is a shame!
