A League Of Our Own, S.J.

Postby Wampus » Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:20 pm

So the last two games have me living in a "field of dreams". Did the last 65 seconds of the St. Louis game remind any of you of the wonderful exhibition of Kyle Korver with Creighton a few years ago on New Year's Eve? He too almost wiped out our lead with lights out shooting.

Aaron Williams and Georgetown. What a game! Today's game against St. Joe's is one of so many against one of my favorite non-X teams in the country. Martelli is the (second) best. I mean if not for Sean, I would love to have him at the helm of our beloved Musketeers.

Brings me to the point of the message. How cool would it be to have an all Jesuit league! Shared values of quality education in the forefront with a history marked in many centuries. I know, I know, the travel and unraveled leagues would make it impossible, but yet the dream is so enjoyable.

Xavier at the top as always. Add Georgetown, Marquette, St. Joe's, St. Louis, Creighton, and others from time to time: Detroit, Loyola, San Francisco, (is Boston College Jebbie?). Who have I forgotten?

Think of how excited all the nuns in the world woud be. Rosaries galore before all non conference games. In conference there would masses for winners and losers alike. And in my book there would be no one to hate. Secondary gain: U.D. only once per year. Heck, Notre Dame would likely drop hoops for jarts. Father Hoff would smile.

As much as I would love to see an All Catholic League or in your case an All jesuit League, I hope it never happens. I feel like the NCAA and alot of others always want the Catholic schools to lose, they always have us playing each other in the early rounds of the NCAA to eliminate one right away. I think it would be a powerful league but think it could di us harm..this is just my opnion though..

We have talked about this for the past 50 million years. The only way this happens is if the Big East breaks apart. It would be great for the fans but as for Xavier being in such a great conference could mean less 20+ win season and more NIT visits. There is no reason Xavier can't be the Memphis of the A-10. I think losing to OSU was the best thing for this program, I don't why but it just seems like we are getting some great recruits after they watched that game.

yes BC is Jesuit school; you may have omitted purposefully Fordham, but Canisius, St Peters, Santa Clara, Marymount have been known at times to field respectable teams; then there are the 'Zags. Just for good measure let's see if Regis, Rockhurst, John Carroll, Scranton and Spring Hill can upgrade to D I level.

How about Holy Cross, Loyola of NO, Canisius...

It's a great party turn to be able to name all 28 US Jesuit universities, though I confess I know nothing about Le Moyne, Rockhurst and Seattle U.

As long as we have this midwinter fantasy, I see three divisions of 6 teams each. Play H&H within your division, and 3 games in each of the other 2 divisions. Or we could run it like the English Premier league, where you promote 4 from the lower division and demote 4 from the upper division each year.

Did you know there is a Jesuit Channel? We dont need no stinking ETWN!

My brother won a fifth of Jameson's a few years back with the bet I couldn't name all TWENTY NINE Jesuit colleges.

I breezed thru the usual 28 ... but neglected to remember the TWENTY NINTH one.

Anyone care to name it?

The answer after supper.
