the only problem i had with Stan was trying to draw a charge with 12 seconds left in the game and a three point lead. Let him make the basket and we still have the one point lead with about ten seconds to go.

Stan taking that block was dumb. Of course, if he gets a charge called, we then talk about what a smart play it was.

But I thought Stan's shot selection, for the most part, was terrible. I realized he made those fall aways from near the three point line. But let's face it, those weren't high percentage shots. He also took that fall away jumper towards the end of the game on the inbounds play, and the shot clock was at 30. He also had a drive to the basket towards the end of the game where he ended up just flipping the ball towards the hoop. I think X got lucky and the ball went out of bounds off SLU.

My guess is that they told Stan to be more aggressive on offfense. But there's a big difference between being aggressive and not playing smart.

Lisch was unreal at the close, scoring 12 points in a minute plus one. How close is that to a NCAA record and who has done better in that period of time?

Other than what I wrote above, overall, I thought Xavier played a pretty good game. There's not much you can do about a guy who makes three long contested threes in the last minute.

I haven't seen that kind of shooting since the guy from Creighton on New Year's Eve.

I recall Jason Williams of Duke scoring about 10 points in a minute against Maryland-2001 season I think.Incredible comeback win for Duke at Maryland.

To be honest, I didn't mind most of Stanely's shot selection. They weren't the highest percentage shots, but he seems to do better when he doesn't think about them as much. I'm glad he is looking to take more shots. If you want to criticize him, definitly the shot he took on that inbounds play when we had a full shot clock was a horrible idea. I didn't mind the block, except that he threw his hand up to try and make a play on the ball, which negated any chance to have it be called a charge. I really thought we played a good game, and St. Louis was just able to make some baskets down the stretch that we really couldn't have defended better then we did. Credit them for getting back in the game.

I watched the end of that game at least 20 times on Sports Center and ESPN News and the result was the same--Xavier won, damn it. Xavier won. No. 14, Xavier, won. Number 5 on the top 10 plays of the night.
Had the game not been a nail biter, Xavier gets space in the crawl under the main stories. Instead Xavier's Derrick Brown gets face time and name recognition again. Ditto Drew.
Whatever the reason for the St. Louis comeback, let's give some credit to lights-out shooting by Lisch and ,yes, some uncharacteristic bad free throw shooting--not really--by X.
Bottom line, Xavier still won and the pub was fantastic.

Don't feel bad a lot of guys on this board had that view until they were set straight. Just like last night Drew missed a foul shot after Stanley but a few seconds latter Stan made both. Stan made those shots to put X up by 6.

Xavier survived a scare but they did win and most teams that are good have that scare in their season. I hope we don't have more but I will probably be wrong.

Ask burbonman what to drink and it will get you through those tough times.
Muskieman,
You are a bit oversensitive, I did not say anything negative against Stan. I simply made an observation that if he would have known where he was at on the court, we could have had 3 extra points. I can understand doing that every once in a while, but 3 times is kind of ridiculous for a college player. I used to have a high school coach get all over anyone who shot a 2 from 19 feet range. Make sure your feet are behind the line and you get an extra point. Stop being so sensitive. I love the defense Stan played and him hitting free throws for the most part. What I was most mad about on Stan was taking the stupid fade away leg kick shot with a couple minutes left that was well short early in the shot clock. Bad shot.

A couple other "observations and constructive criticisms" as I will call it. We fouled at least 3 jumpshooters. That should NEVER happen 3 times in a game. Maybe occasionally, but we did it at least 3 times that I can recall. I know Love did it once and I think CJ may have done it twice.

On a final note, ESPN sux. They kept talking about IU squeaking out an OT win against a 10-14 win, just because of Gordon's commitment, then backing out of it. Great, talk about it, but they were beating a dead horse, over and over again. Not once in the games leading up to the XU-SLU game did they promote our game. Typical BS from ESPN, promoting the so-called BCS power conferences. I think we had a solid story line as well with former ESPN analyst and SLU coach Majerus against the A-10 leader and #13/14 XU, who waxed IU by 15 on a neutral floor, but hey I am just a biased X fan I guess.

I have to admit that I was about to throw the remote into the tv in the last minute of the game. I wasn't mad at X--just couldn't believe that Lisch could keep nailing those three's. Thats darn hard to stop. I give the Muskies a ton of credit for not folding at the end. Thats the sign of a very good team. Bring on the Hawks!

.
We shot free throws well, but we need to do better at the end of the game. Stan missing the front end of a 1 and 1 almost cost us. nothing negative here right! Did you mention the miss by drew or were you too busy with stan hate?

Speaking of Stan, I counted 3 times during the game, that he made a 2 pt jump shot and was basically right on the line. Step back a couple inches and make it a 3, instead of that stupid leg kick crap. He did that 3 freaking times, which cost us 3 points if he would have shot 3 pt jump shots. I seem to keep missing those compliments you gave Stan. BTW we did win.

When you get back from looking up the word negative you can retract that statement. "I did not say anything negative against Stan"
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
