It might be premature, but it's a fact of life that kids are getting looked at earlier and earlier. Here are some kids we are targeting and some I think we need to target from the Class of 2011.
Chane Behanan, 6-6 PF, Aiken HS
Stevie Taylor, 5-9 PG, Gehanna HS
I believe we are in the mix for both, albeit very early on. Here's an article that looks at several of the country's best freshmen: http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/Conten ... ache-false
A little more on Behanan: http://www.chicagosports.rivals.com/vie ... 44&sport=2
The first article also mentions Tony Kimbro Jr, whose dad was a big time high school player back in the day, and ended up at U of L. This article says he'll be the next big thing: http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/de ... 20Jr..html. We should get in the mix early with him, too.
I realize how ridiculous it might seem to some, but I think in order to stay competitive we need to identify and target top freshmen.
Thoughts?

Re: 2011 Targets
I have a 2016 target- Jaret Edwards- Kensington Grade School.
C'mon. Truthfully, this stuff is getting out of hand. One year out with at least some high school experience to view? OK. But freshmen in high school? (Unless they're Lebron James, or a former NBAer's kid.)
I know that Sean has been recruiting Kenny Frease since his freshman year, but there is so much that can go wrong or right in three years. Not only that, there are cases like Big Love that fly under the radar. Wouldn't want to use up all your scholly's and miss out on a kid like that.

So should he ignore HS frosh altogether, running of the risk of having them firmly leaning/committed to somewhere else when they blossom soph/jr/sr year?Masterofreality wrote:I have a 2016 target- Jaret Edwards- Kensington Grade School.

I do think recruiting grade school kids is a stretch but just to play Devils Advocate didn't Knight start recruiting Damon Bailey in the 7th grade.

Yes, either 7th OR 8th! I do think that coaches need to take a "looksy" at Frosh. I believe in the saying: The early bird catches the worm!

Re: 2011 Targets
The summer after a high school player's freshman year is usually the best time to start evaluating a player. It is early, but not incredibly early. UNC and OSU both locked up 2010 commitments in the spring of 2007. Springtime is just around the corner fellas. For those that think this is a little bit ridiculous, it is, but that's the reality.

Hey, I know about this 6-3 kindergarten kid whose Mom ia 6-1 and whose Dad is 6-8! He can already dunk the ball (on his adjustable hoop setup!.) Let's get in on him early.
