While I have an extensive list of today’s Coaching mistakes, here is one which is as objective as anything.
With 9:17 to go in the game Freemantle committed his 3rd Foul, at the 8:57 mark he picked up his 4th. While that 4th Foul was questionable, everyone saw Steele and his staff were slow with a substitution. In fact, Freemantle should have been called for his 5th on the in-bounds. Not that I would have been upset if that 5th foul would have been called because Edwards would have been able to play more. Still, a slow substitution, exposing a starter to fouling out at 8:57 with 3 fouls in 20 seconds and an oblivious Coaching Staff?
Grammar School Coaches do not make that mistake. Who is responsible for informing Steele? How could Steele not know, with back-to-back fouls? How unaware could a Head Coach be?
Maybe a small item, but if a Coach and his staff cannot get that right, there is no wonder why the Team is in yet another late season free fall.

Re: Seton Hall game thread 2/26/22
I hated hearing the boos, but this program needs a reboot. The problem is we have a new president who is probably really good overall, but I doubt she has the will or understanding of the implications of the dumpster fire the program has become under Steele. Christopher woke up rounding third and headed for home when he was the steward of bad, lower mid-major men's bball and football programs at BG , and somehow made his way onto Victory PKWY.
The Board has an unconditional Steele supporter. Even if X misses the tourney, I don't think a change is coming. Chitown's illustration of Steele's lack of awareness regarding fouls with HIS key players (Freemantle today, Nunge Wed night) shows he and the staff are either completely incompetent, or really lack bball acumen. I think it is a blend of both. My mantra has stood since year two: We have all recruiters, but no coaches. If we somehow sneak into the tourney, it will be because our AAU team beat yours. Other than Ewing, Steele is clearly outclassed by every coach in this league. If X had any integrity, they would let our recruits out of their LOIs.

Multiple timeouts Steele didn’t even talk to players just assistants. Our effort and D is just dreadful

plenty of shooters and too few "scorers". As I always say recruit scorers not shooters....anyone can shoot , few are consistent scorers.

Being there and watching this game after game is maddening.
About 2 minutes into the 2nd half there is a time out and the coaches are huddling. As my brother, who was attending the game with me, wondered what the heck has changed from 2 minutes into the 2H.
And what the f is on the laminated sheet? Obviously, not a game plan.
And Dante Jackson studying a stat sheet during the time out. Every possible stat you need is flashing up on the scoreboard. I believe the point differential on points off turnovers was pretty to what the point differential was for the game.

As well as a lot of fans.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 5:55 pmIf Steele comes back, I think a lot of players will transfer out.
What kills me is that a player like Miles can start and average 15 min a game in non conference, including the likes of Oklahoma St, UC, OSU, and has played a total of 14 minutes in BE play. And has 10 DNP-CD's in BE play. But the same goes for guys like Stanley and Edwards.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
That's precisely where Steele is with this team at this point.

1H - Scruggs makes a nifty pass to the student body. Then gets beat badly on the baseline by his man for an easy basket for SH.
But no reaction by Steele. Just keep playing without consequence.
Where have you gone Coach Dale, a lonely Xavier Nation turns their eyes to you.
