Re: SJ Game Thread
Take that "W", and run. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Do not look back. RUN!!! Because that was pure thievery. Grand larceny. Matters not how we ended up with more points than they did at season's end. Run.......................!

Re: SJ Game Thread
Ugly win but still in the hunt to go dancing.
As for the 3 big debate, Carter, and zone:
The team flow was terrible prior to going to 3 bigs. 3 bigs is not ideal but there is a better flow on offense than the previous line-up. Against certain teams it is not likely to end well but provides an advantage against other teams.
Zone is a good option with 3 bigs. It is a good option against certain types of teams and it is something that should be used in stretches to change the flow of games. I'm not in favor of going zone all game unless you are mixing up more than 1 type of zone. The type of defense that should be primary is dependent on the skillset of the X team and of the opposing team. X going with 3 bigs certainly makes zone an appropriate choice in many situations. That being said, when teams start to figure out how to beat the zone or get into a rhythm, a defensive change can help stop momentum and runs.
Carter has had a lot of disappointing moments this season but he has also done some good things. For the most part he has been solid most games since going to the 3 big line-up. There is a lot of frustration all over this line-up. Jones is playing the most consistent basketball on the team but he can't shoot past 5 feet and has questionable moments from that distance. Marshall flashes moments of greatness and just as many frustrating moments where it is hard to know if he is playing for the other team.
Decision making and execution is still a problem for this team. The good news however is that the team is playing with more energy which is giving them a chance at getting the W despite turnovers and other issues.

Re: SJ Game Thread
that was when Tyrique had just got his shot blocked and they came down 5 on 4 (mainly because Ryq was arguing to the ref) and looked they were going to get a layup, then Carter SMACKED that s#$% off the board and started the break that got TJ that huge slam. that was a HUGE play at that moment.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:09 pmI've been a Carter apologist the whole year, then switched my opinion b/c he is so inconsistent offensively, but to your point, the numbers don't lie. He also had a crucial block and two key boards in the last three minutes as well.xavier71 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:24 pmI'm beginning to think that no matter what Jason Carter does people are going to find something negative. I didn't bother to count, but I believe there were 3 or 4 posts during the game that were negative. It's been that way all year. He played a good game BUT, His line was good BUT, he only had 1 turnover BUT. I would like people to say 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block and only 1 turnover is a really good game and just leave it at that.
Carter continues to do a great job defending guys who are quicker/faster/shorter than him when we do go to the big lineup. that's what he brings to the table. how often do we see him getting blown by to the rim? not at all.
yes, i'd love him to be more consistent on offense and finish around the rim better, but i'd love that from ALL our guys. i'd love if he could be counted on to knock down 2-3 3's game. we need that from him and he's capable. he just hasn't shown it yet.
either way, HUGE win on the road.

How in the world are we going to replace Jones’ presence and production next year?

Two red shirt freshman who we have never seen will replace Jones? We really do wear rose color glasses on this board.

i can only provide one observation after watching that game, Figueroa made Goodin look like Steve Alford out there. 2/17 and that "shot" he took from the ft line down one. He's a coach killer.

Not to mention his last shot that he fired up with his right hand. He must be watching Naji too much.

isn't that a never-ending theme each year? Who will replace _____________Jesseandrippers wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 8:05 amHow in the world are we going to replace Jones’ presence and production next year?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
