Who do you want as the next Head coach?

I chose Steele. However, the timing of Mack's leaving is good. The final four is this weekend, which gives GC a chance to talk to coaches and administrators about the opening. Additonally, no one seems to talk about Div 2 coaches. Does anyone know of an up and coming coach. Last a talk show host stated that X's last 6 coaches had a grand total of 41 wins before taking over at X. As small as the number is - it seems high to me?

Not sure how you could hire him over Steele, though- you basically couldn't. Has the name, bit of NBA experience and success @ lower level.

He looks like someone who would be a great assistant to Steele, assuming he has his Dad's coaching chops.

Who ever is next will only be at X for 3 to 9 years max...it is current history of coaches. I want the next coach to guarantee a FF...or pay his or her salary back. (lol) X's offer to the next coach should be 1 million and an unlimited supply of bags of ice.

Hasty assumption. Being in the BE, and being able to pay a top 25 salary no longer makes this a plausible conclusion. CM has been a money guy since day one, and there is nothing wrong with it. After a very good inaugural year with Miller's loaded roster, he tried to get the Tenn job, but turned it down, some say due to pending sanctions. Three years ago, he would have taken the CA job, if Christi didn't veto it. He is taking a job at a very good bball school (though they're chronic cheaters), and few teams can pay what Hookerville can.

All we've heard since Pitino got fired is that Mack's wife is from Louisville and wants to move back home...blah, blah, blah.

Give me a coach that's gonna say, "hey t*ts, when you are making 2 milly a year, come tell me it's time to move. Now what's for supper?"

Chris clearly didnt do that and ***** on his school and hometown instead.

Does anyone have any insider info as to who we are even trying to speak to? Usually with these coaching searches you will read things like “(Team) has requested _____’s permission to speak with ______ about head coaching vacancy”

Haven’t seen/heard anything, very quiet.

This would lead me to believe very few contacts have been made.

I'm not opposed to Steele, it sounds like he carries a lot of respect with the players already...but I think Kelsey would be a good fit too. Cincinnati high school kid, Xavier grad, Cincinnati mentality. Dino Gaudio had a great take on him last night with Lance. Spoke very highly of him regarding recruiting, X's and O's, and personality.

If one of the qualities we always look for is a guy who would stay for a while and provide stability, Kelsey would fit that aspect.

Anti-Homer - It seems you where a "luke warm fan of Mack" so I have to remind you of his first year that was on the Xavier website. This is right from the site' Chris Mack, the 09-10 Basketball Times Rookie Coach of the Year, was 26-9 in his first season as Xavier's head coach. He was the winningest first-year head coach in Division 1 for that season and tied the school record for the most ever by an XU rookie head coach (26). Mack was the only rookie head coach to lead his team into the 2010 NCAA tournament. In addition, Mack became the first Xavier head coach to guide XU to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in his first season as coach. Mack led Xavier to a 26 win season, the first time in school history that was without at least two seniors on the roster. In addition, he accomplished that feat with NO RETURNING DOUBLE FIGURE SCORES FROM LAST SEASON. It was even more impressive record when you consider XU had played arguably its toughest schedule ever. l (At that time) think that you are not giving him enough credit. He did what 99% of us would do if you got 28 mill over 7 years. He is no different than our previous coaches did and it provided a lifetime security for his family and beyond. Trying to minimizing his job performance is ridiculous. Now, I am for continuity and I would like to see Steele as out new coach. Go Xavier!
