Wisconsin Game 11/16/17

Would like to echo the pearls of wisdom above from Kyzrex! Lot's to love about last night and most have already been mentioned here. But both S.O.M and Basketball Jones displayed better individual post "man" D techniques than last year. SOM was brutal in anything but a zone last season when faced with quality post opponents, yet last eve he was moving well and, with a few exceptions when Happ rolled to bucket after fake handoffs, made Happ shoot fairly contested shots. Basketball Jones also was moving well and using his strong body more by hedging instead of reaching. What was he last year - like .86 fouls per minute??? Heck, last night he showed incredible progress, again like I said about Big Sean, this coming against one of the better offensively skilled post men in the country. The 2nd think I took away was, as others have noted, was our poise and resilience. Twice X looked to take control only to see Bucky spurt back on the wave of an energetic & loud crowd. Both times X stopped the bleeding and executed for good shots. Long season, plenty of up's & downs ahead to be sure, but this squad has lots of 'answers' to choose from and an almost sinister collective attitude on the court. Hopefully no one wants to discuss recruiting all that much on this site for the next few months.....

In the end, Senior leadership, poise, strong defensive boards and our size and physical play were the difference. Scruggs showed great poise and played quality minutes. Marshall as has been said earlier will play into a key role by conference play. I loved how Mack went to the young guys in key points of the game.

I love the new Kaiser Gates. A strong rebounder and good defender that will present match up problems.

It is always good when the fans on the road are focsued on JP. JP does his job with a great stat line and gets into the other team/fans heads.

Bucky Badger welcome to BE basketball. A 10 point win on the road and putting up 80 points on the Badgers is an impressive early resume builder. Now on to Hampton and then a good two week stretch against solid competition.

He now stands at 35 on the all-time scoring list, passed Frey, BJ, et al. last night.

the vitriol being spewed on Twitter about the so-called lack of class by XU players (mainly JP and Tre) is just comical. the Wisc student section was giving it to them all game and they just fired back at the end, mostly with their play.

scrolling through Twitter made me think it was Tu and Lyons still playing for us.

I love that JP can be the token "hated white guy on the opposing team". he feeds off of it and plays so much better.

nothing wrong with a little "edginess" to our guys. you need that. i'll take 20 from JP every night (especially without even making a 3)

The bottom line is it's best to enjoy your win as a team and not get involved with the crowd, especially on the road. It always comes back to you down the road. We'll be fine as long as Bluett can drop shots. If he's not on against better teams, we're going to struggle to score points. New guys just do not look battle ready particularly offensively. Always a good win on the road, but this is not at this point a better Wisky team.

Tre didn't play well. He has to step it up this half for us to win. He has a history of a bad first half followed by a big second half. Let's hope it happens

When he squares up, there aren't many guys who are as pure a shooter as he is.

Agree with everything you wrote, but unfortunately, it will take years before we shed the gansta tag b/c of Thrilla at Cintas. If the roles were reversed, and it was Happ doing something similar like the dreaded Gator Chop at X, they probably wouldn't have even acknowledged it. Credit CM for learning from the Brawl, as he pulled JP out, not that I expected him to do anything that Tu, Lyons, or Dez did.

Whoever compared JP to Mayfield gave a perfect analogy. Not since Tu has X had someone with ice water in his veins as JP.
