How is this not CM's fault? Even if you truly believe the team doesn't have BE talent, was he not in charge of recruiting? Is he not responsible for developing players?
It is not a talent issue, it is a lack of defensive intensity, offensive flow and game management. Sumner is very talented but his absence should not be enough to destroy the entire team. Chris is very dependent on a PG breaking down the defense. Tu, Lyons, Semaj and Sumner have all been given the reigns to control the game. Whether the PG makes good or bad decisions he always has a green light to do whatever he wishes. This team shows why that is a consistent theme as without the aggressive PG, his offensive set is a disaster. The team shot well today but that was abnormal post Sumner's injury. Unfortunately good shooting was not enough to offset terrible defense.
It is time to start a coaching search. The team is in a good position to land a quality coach, there is no reason to wait for this to become a rebuilding.

You can not be serious! A new coach? Mack was just national COY last season, and now because of surprise defections (Reynolds, Davis) and an injury (Sumner) you want him fired???????????? I tolerated Tay Baker because I love watching Xavier basketball, never called for his firing. Mack is 10X the coach tay was! Mack is here at Xavier for the long run, he is not chasing every opening. And this is the type of gratitude you show? Get over it, and move on.madness31 wrote:How is this not CM's fault? I was at the game and Mack looks defeated and unfortunatley we do not have the assistants we used to. Mack sat down most of game and made no adjustments at all. What is more concerning is the lack of improvement in some of our players. Gates looked like a Horizon league player at best and omara looks lost at times.

Jesus Christ. What good coaches do you think X is in position to hire?

Awful, pathetic, piss-poor. Choose whatever adjective you want. Outside of Bernard, no one showed up tonight. Everyone else sucked.
One more thing for the CM fan club--if you think X cannot get a quality, young, "up and coming" coach with this league, facility and program, you're crazy. Not saying Mack does not deserve time to pull out of the tailspin he has placed this program in, but another season like this and he rightfully belongs on the hot seat.
Here's hoping next year's incoming class is 25% as good as people on this board claim it is.....

What in the heck do you want Mack to do? We are down to 7 players who can even compete at this level. None of you Mack-bashers will even acknowledge he lost four players unexpectedly (Davis, Reynolds, Sumner, Eiykor) and we are seeing young players (Jones, Goodin, Gates) playing roles they were not expected to. If I am Xavier's president and AD, as a token of good faith I would extend Mack's contract 3 years with a slight raise to insure he will be here for good. Mack has done a great job since taking over. Do you really want the previous two guys back? They only cared about money, both of them. Mack will right the ship next year. I know many are upset and just venting on this board. But to call for Mack to be fired is over the top and should not be suggested at all. Mack is a very good person and good for the program. He's a Cincinnati guy as well. Hard to find loyalty in college sports, but Mack is.skyhops wrote:I was at the game and Mack looks defeated and unfortunatley we do not have the assistants we used to. Great performance by Marquette on the road and Senior Night to boot. Great shooting and penetrating the lane every time. Wojo has recruited some great shooters and putting the ball in the basket covers up a lot of warts. They made it look easy to score inside or out. both Butler and Marquette look like they could make a run in the Dance or is it our poor defense which makes them look so good. Win or lose at DePaul makes no difference. This team and the season is now burnt toast. Good effort by the (2) seniors and JP who played 40 minutes. Watching this team struggle is painful and worse than a root canal. Not sure they belong in the NIT (Nobody Interested Tournament). At least we shouldn't have to worry about losing the coach this year.

You are worse than delusional. You want another Matta or Miller, both who were just looking for money and could have cared less about Xavier? Get over it and move on. Mack is here to stay.XavierTragedy wrote:Awful, pathetic, piss-poor. Choose whatever adjective you want. Outside of Bernard, no one showed up tonight. Everyone else sucked.

Trust me, the Xavier job is not as desirable as you think. You have to separate program strength from how desirable the job is to coaches.XavierTragedy wrote:Awful, pathetic, piss-poor. Choose whatever adjective you want. Outside of Bernard, no one showed up tonight. Everyone else sucked.

The common wisdom surrounding Archie not even picking up the phone for NC St and jobs of that ilk is "don't take a job that's not in the top 3 jobs in that league." Many if not all up and comers abide by that logic, or at least should. Certainly the best ones do. And if you're going to replace the national coach of the year, you better be getting the sure thing up and comer.
Xavier is not a top 3 job in the Big East. Sorry.
Mack on the hot seat if he has another season where he is on the NCAA Tournament bubble? Dude, this isn't Kentucky. You think X is going to have a quicker trigger than IU has with Crean? Talk about delusional.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
