I agree. What about VCU and Wichita State? I thought I read on this board a couple years ago that we had some kind of geographical veto on Dayton.

VCU has dropped since Smart left (and he isn't doing that well at Texas). Wichita State is 43 in RPI, but has a SOS of 156 (vs 4 for X). Don't think we want either. U Conn is down but I think that is an aberration.oreobob wrote:I agree. What about VCU and Wichita State? VCU not looking to leave the A-10. Not sure why anyone thinks Wichita State would ever leave the MVC, they are a staple in that league and own the dominant program there. UConn is not going to join the Big East, but some boosters up there would like to see them abolish football. Their football program has been a disaster since they joined the 1-A ranks years back.

OSD, are we talking about Virginia Commonwealth University when you use the letters, 'VCU'? If so, this is how much VCU has "dropped" to this season's (2016-2017) terrible state of affairs:olsingledigit wrote:VCU has dropped since Smart left (and he isn't doing that well at Texas). Overall record: 21 - 5
A-10 Record: 11 - 2 (Tied with Dayton for first place)
RPI: #25 (Dayton is #29)
Attendance: Sell-outs for every game this season at home
VCU seems to have, like Xavier, the "magic touch" when hiring new head coaches for its Men's basketball program.
This post is not a suggestion for or against any particular team (UConn, VCU, UD, or WSU) being added to membership in the Big East. I'm pleased with the Big East as it is with 10 members and an 18-game, round-robin Conference Schedule.
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!

The word is W-State is said to be considering resurrecting football and will join the AAC for all sports. With Bball money from tv likely to drop in the next contract rounds, Uconn faces a very big decision if they further drop down their fball program. Temple, Memphis and Houston have all upped their fball exposure a great deal getting out of the mac and cusa. You will never get a p5 invite for fball coming out of those two conferences.

Re: Big East expansion!?
I used to think Richmond and St Louis would be good fits geographically, but St. Louis has seen a big drop in the last few seasons, and Richmond has been so-so. St. Louis is another Jesuit University, in a big market, and a hot recruiting area, which would fit the BE mold, but now I am unsure. . I think the Big East would do more for these two programs than they could do for the Big East.
I think an interesting prospect would be Florida Gulf Coast. Both the men's and women's program had a ton of success in D2, and after they moved to D1 in 2012, the men's program has had a ton of success in the NCAA. Plus, the campus is really growing. It is an up and coming program that would also help the Big East recruit in Florida.

Re: Big East expansion!?
There are also rumors they are interested in joining the Mountain West. I think they will jump, but bringing back football seems to be a motivator. Florida Gulf Coast spent money exploring football and decided it was way to expensive. If Wichita St comes to the same decision, they would be a great add. But I think pads are in their future and the Big East is not.thecoach wrote:The word is W-State is said to be considering resurrecting football and will join the AAC for all sports.
