Yes, Providence must be awful. They beat a full-strength Butler team by a mere 6 points last Saturday.
Gentlemen, at any level of basketball, if your two leading scorers are out, challenges abound.

No they're not .Only a few teams in the country can lose their top 2 players and still win games. Also Butler just lost to Providence with a full lineup so they're better than you thinkX-Expert wrote:total disappointment to be blown out by a bad team-without Bluitt and Sumner X is more talented. .

sad to see the guys in the second half. They looked tired and emotionally spent. I am not sure any coach could have changed the outcome once PU found their shooting touch. With the loss of the two biggest scorers on the team it is easier to defend X. They let JP get his points because they knew X needed much more than JP and gaston. Unless Tre can become 100% this team will need something more and it is not sitting on the bench. When Tim Stainbrook came in I said to my wife this could be the end. We certainly needed the 35 points Ed and Tre supplied
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

So you stop playing defense because your two leading scorers are out of the game? Same goes with the amount of unforced turnovers and lackadaisical playing in the second half. Gates, Goodin, and Bernard looked lost most of the game and Mack continues not not make the proper adjustments needed. He even said he isn't doing a good job.

the turnovers are frustrating, especially the unforced but they are a by-product of guys having to play way more minutes than they're used to and also having to step into roles that they're not used to. and there is no changing those last two things - you just hope your players can adjust to it. i think JP has adjusted fine but you can see it takes its toll on him on offense with his multiple turnovers and his 3 pt shot being just short late in the game - he is GASSED, as are most of the other guys.skyhops wrote:So you stop playing defense because your two leading scorers are out of the game? what would you suggest would've been the proper adjustments last night? play Stainbrook more? Providence started to get hot in the 2nd half, which is understandable when you're at your own place, you make a shot or two, the crowd gets into it, you get a little more energy, confidence, etc. same thing that happens to us at Cintas.
we simply had no answer offensively in the 2nd half.
whether that be Mack calling the right sets to get guys the ball in good spots or just guys not knocking down shots at certain times, or guys just turning it over because they're tired.
it's a speed bump. a learning experience. we knew when Sumner went down we would have some of these, Bluiett healthy or not. still have a chance to go 3-2 in the last 5, maybe win a BE tourney game and get into the dance.

X is basically playing with 7 guys. If Stainbrook or Bergen can sub in 5-7 mins a game without too much damage it may give some players a needed rest. Mack has to find some ways to sub more. But, I think the real problem is 2nd half play. It's been X's problem all year. I have no idea what the issue has been but, in their losses they have tanked in the 2nd half. Honestly at this point I think we're looking at 1-4 in the remaining games.

Mack said he wasn't doing a good job and you seem to think you have all the answers so you tell us what Mack does to make up for the loss of Ed, Tre and Davis? and while you are at it tell us how you cure Jones knee problem.skyhops wrote:So you stop playing defense because your two leading scorers are out of the game?
