I always wonder why people decide to be a ref. I have known two NCAA basketball refs, and they were great guys, bu all are different, and all have a different reason for doing it. The best are spectators who are there to make sure the game is payed by the rules. But many others think they are a major part of the game, and they make calls to ensure that. Sometimes, they are so worried about being part of the game, they can't make practical calls and let the game be decided by the players. I know we all had issues with the refs in our game yesterday, but how about the St. Bonaventure - VCU game? There refs blew it, and what they did changed the outcome of the game... with .4 seconds left. This is ridiculous.

Re: Refs
The couple grand they make a game is a pretty good reason to be a ref. As far as the Bonnie's game, my only question is, why did they storm the court in the first place?

Re: Refs
The Bonnies made the shot at the buzzer, but there was .4 seconds left. And they had to review the video to see how much time, if any, was left on the clock. Clear the court and give VCU the ball. You don't call a technical.

Re: Refs
if your fans storm the court simply for beating VCU and that's the rule - a technical is given - which i think was stated by the A-10 as well, then you deserve to lose. and there was still time left on the clock AFTER he made the shot. it didn't go to 0.0 right away.
stupid fans cost their team a HUGE win.

Re: Refs
What is the A-10 going to say? It's a stupid call. Let the players decide the game. A lot of experts agree it was a bad call. There was no "delay of game". They had to go to the monitor to take a look at the clock. Clear the floor while they are doing it. No big deal.

Re: Refs
The rules exist for a reason...similarly, as do our laws. Officials get enough criticism for what the "don't call," now let's criticize them for enforcing EXISTING rules...or what the "do call." They cannot set aside a rule, as that would affect the outcome also...let the players decide WITHIN the rules...however, home administration plays a role also...which includes assuring that the fans will remain in the stands. Can't have it both ways.
