I can't remember the last time our bigs played so poorly. If I were Mack, I would make them watch that game over and over and ask them why?
Another thing, I don't remember a Xavier team giving up 50 points in so many halves. I think this is the fourth time this year. I can remember seasons without giving up 50.

Gaston O'Mara 0 for 7 with no shot longer than 2 feet. Gates starts for the first time this year I believe and is awful.

Gaston, omara, gates:
46 minutes, 1-12 FG, 3 pts, 9 rebounds.
What a joke. I know they're college kids and don't want to be too negative on them directly. But I'm not sure what gaston brings to the table. Zero offensive game, seemed like a strong rebounder but 3 out of 4 games he disappears entirely.
Omara: let's face it, he's MAC conference level talented. He's not a bad ball player but it's way too fast and physical for him at this level.
Gates: had such high hopes for him. And it could totally be from his injured knee so if it is maybe I'm off base. But what the hell does he ever contribute? He's a 6'8 non ball handler spot up shooter who can't rebound or defend the glass.
Tyrique Jones is the only down low player we have that shows any talent for fighting for rebounds and blocking shots. It's unfortunate he's battling the knee injury bc I think this kid has a big future.

We couldn't play man because our bigs and JP were getting blown by and 1-3-1 doesn't work or force turnovers. Imagine next year when Tre and Ed declare

Have to agree, aside from this game Tre has had a down year, even Ed at this point would be silly to jump.

I hope you guys are right, but I hear Tre and his folks think he is NBA ready and if Ed goes in first he is gone. I do think Tyrique played well and has a high ceiling.

Re: Our Bigs need to really to need to.......
Look, Omara is not a div. 1 post player. His footwork, hops and jumping ability would have been much better suited for Loyola which i think was his second choice. Good kid by all measure, but he's lost out there against upper level competition. Gaston has not seen this level of competition on a night in and night out basis, but unfortunately he's not here very long so his upside is limited. Gates from what i've seen does not like to play inside to begin with which is a big problem particularly against an opponent like UC which thrives from going to the glass. London was even a lessor version of the same thing. Jones is the best hope, but he has a lot of work to do. Encouraging he hit his ft's last night, and he got a bucket even if it should not have been counted. Whether or not either of the big kids he has for next year is going to make an immediate impact i'll judge when i see them. As i've said from the beginning all year, i would trade for the kid Uc has Brooks in a heartbeat. He understands his role, and he embraces it. You cannot win with perimeter players alone. Shooting can only take you so far, and last night astronomical shooting by one guy kept the game respectable(and some bad ft shooting), but we were not even in that game inside the paint. Bad thing is all those big guys back next year for uc, and a new pg who is from what i saw in a scrimmage this fall their best player. That road in the shootout is not going to get any easier in the short run. Unfortunately this move to the catholic school league has changed the level/type of team we are facing. This big east is not long on post play at this point, and save for Seton Hall you do not see a lot of big physical play on a nigh in and night out basis. However, when you step outside, it's still there.

We all knew we would have a post problem that might get better later in the year. It hasn't. Miss James and most of the time Jalen.
