So sad! That country is really struggling. First the economy, now this. There is growing backing of statehood. I love PR and would love to see them become a state, although it would cost us taxpayers up front.

It's way overblown. I"ve been down there 4 times this year on business and have yet to run across anyone who has/had the zika virus. Typically impacts those in higher middle island regions where mosquito's are more prevalent. Most of the population is down in the north coast region where there is a great deal of wind and sun. Both of which mosquitos do not like. If you are not pregnant, not an issue.

Mononucleosis...who said anything about mono? It's Zika...just kidding Shadow, I'm just joking. All kidding aside I did honor my airline ticket and went to Puerto Rico instead of Orlando. I found a bar in the Condado area which had ESPNU and caught the 1st two games. It rained with no end but otherwise it was warm. I went sight seeing to the foothills of Cayey for some roasted pig and for some Pitorro(Puerto Rican moonshine). Like it was mentioned earlier in the thread this Zika thing is way overblown. If you were 7-8 months pregnant and flying into PR then perhaps I would have worried. If you go west of the island let's say Mayaguez or Isabela then you would find yourself in a different world. Things are considerably cheaper and the hustle and bustle you find in San Juan is nonexistent in this part of the island. Overall, it was an excellent trip and I got to load up on my Pitorro.Shadow wrote:And also monogamous!thecoach wrote:. If you are not pregnant, not an issue.

Hey Mosq,
Nothing like a relaxing vacation on a tropical isle with the natives walking the beach and the swaying palm trees blowing in the pure, fresh sea breeze.

It's the same panic that was thrown out there for the Rio Olympics. It's a big $ squeeze to grab and spend health care dollars. How many millions of folks were at the games and what have you heard since then. Zilch. That virus has a very short life expectancy. If you're pregnant, or it's critical over a several day period that you keep firing bullets, maybe it's not for you. However, you are more likely to be in a bad car wreck or do bad damage to your skin or liver on an island than have zika disrupt your life. Dengue is much worse symptom wise as far as it's duration and miserableness level and you hear nothing about it.
