Whether or not they are, there's no undervaluing Xavier's performance during the game or up to this point. Memphis is a good team with good players. There's a lot of talent and speed on that team that should be appreciated.
UNC is the Darfur of intelligence.
XU fans don't root for UC football.

Memphis is a good team. They are so big and one of the advantages is that X was the first team they played that matched up inside and presents a big team look. They certainly have high fliers and will win a lot of games this year. Because X beat them does not diminish their talent...it just shows skeptics that X is better than they think.
Xavier can play games in which heir big name players don't play up to the level they are capable of playing and still win thanks to their depth and coaches. The position that we doubt is the point and so far Jackson and TH have shown they can handle the position and then some. It is not a fluke that TH gets to the line and shoots about 90, Sean has said that Red is the best from the line but TH is not far behind.
Looking at great over the year there have been a combination of experienced and new players and the new players are the key at times in the season, TH has been that at least in PR.
The team deserves a big ovation next home game from their fans. And when they fall they will not deserve the criticism that some will run here to heap on them.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Don't know if Memphis is overrated, but X is playing very well with as many new faces as they have this year.I didn't see them winning this.Halloway was huge again but McClean's performance was just as big.He did a great job filling in for DBrown who never seemed to get in the flow.Once again we have a deep team with a lot of guys who can beat you. Great start to the season and all 3 of these wins will look good in March.Memphis is still going to dominate CUSA and be a top 25 team.

WE WON'T KNOW THAT FOR AT LEAST FIVE MORE GAMES. MY HUMBLE OPINION IS THAT THEY ARE AT LEAST TOP 15

Xavier is a top 20 team.......and in a learning mode, trying to score more points, and trying to build BETTER team chemistry. The real questions are and will be answered game by game and in Feb and March when they need to be peaking.

Do NOT mean this as in any way taking away from X's great performance in PR, but, yes, I do think Memphis is overrated, at least as of now. They're long and athletic, but not very skilled. I can see where they'd be tough in an open-court game, but in a half-court game, they really struggle.

Re: memphis overrated?
Haven't been here in a while and thought I'd check out the reaction to the big wins in Puerto Rico. Some things remain the same in the old neighborhood. X beats a team that was in the NCAA finals last year, was ranked 12th and is poised to become the first team to ever win 30 games in four successive years. And what is the headline: Is Memphis overrated? Are you kidding me? Just a few years ago we fans would have been wondering if Memphis (and Mizzou and Va Tech for that matter) would blow us out of the gym. Instead, the team wins three big games in four days and takes the tournament championship, yet the focus is not to revel in the victory, but to wonder if our opponent is any good. Puhleezzz. This thread is like a daytime soap opera. You can miss it for months, but whenever you come back, you realize you haven't missed anything.
Enjoy the big wins folks and don't put any conditions on it. It feels good. Really it does.
Peace.

Re: memphis overrated?
vee, I think everyone IS enjoying yesterday's big win (and the entire tournament). But for those of us who hadn't seen Memphis before yesterday, I have to say I was underwhelmed.
Did X play a tough, gutsy, tournament-level game? Absolutely. Is everyone proud of the kids and the coaching staff? Sure. Having seem them, do I think Memphis was the #12 team in the country? Maybe not.
