i looked at the sites for this year 2009...5 of the 8 first /second round sites are already sold out and 2 of the 4 regional sites are sold out. The few sites close to Cincinnati are sold out..like Dayton. The sites and phone numbers are on the NCAA web site.

Looks like economc problems don't bother some basketball fans.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I may be stating information some people are aware of, but in case you did not - tickets to the NCAA tournament sites (like Dayton) go on sale to the public typically the summer before. I know that personally, I looked into purchasing tickets to the Dayton games, and they were available in late August for roughly $135.00 (covers all games). In the end, I thought it was too much for just a few days of games, which I regret now.... That $$$ went to season tickets at XU, so it all worked out I suppose.

Looks like you can still get Regional Tix in Indy - not sure if you will be able to see the floor from where your seat is though....thats a big place.

it is not just individuals....the ticket brokers and scalpers buy all the tickets they can get in the best locations at each site, plus the host school allow its people to buy, etc etc before any go on sale to the public. When Rupp was the site 2-3 years ago, UNIV of Kentucky allowed individuals to buy eight tickets at a time per person, once the tickets went on sale.

How do they determine the locations? Do they have to be in certain areas or have certain capacities? Do they have to be places like Dayton so they don't have to worry about a team having a home court advantage in the NCAA Tournament?

I certainly do not know all the details. But Regional sites usually become NCAA Final Four eligible candidate sites if they handle the Regional well. First /Second round sites and Regional sites usually require seating capability in the 16,000 to 20,000 plus range.....while most Regional sites are held in football arenas so the seating capacity can be 40,000 to 70,000 seats..and so they can be considered for the Final Four which usually requires seating 65,000 plus. Most sites require city and or university sponsor support to be selected and a minimum $$$ guarantee to the NCAA by the sponsoring source. Bids for any site and date are done years in advance and awarded years in advance.....the NCAA has all sites and details and years awarded posted on its web site. I believe the Final Four sites are already awarded through 2014 or 2016, as they just awarded 4 more years this week.
