This will have little impact on Xavier or Sean Miller.Considering this is Drew's second run in with police, it's starting to look bad for him.A drunk, high college student is not unusual but getting arrested twice is.I fear for his future and hope someone is there to straighten him out before it's too late.

sad to hear, for sure..this incident has nothing to do with, nor needs to be compared to, or measured with any one else or their mistakes..bad decision was made, he got caught, embarassed, and will suffer the concequences..we have one life, we can only mess it up in our own way..or..as often gets posted here.....life is life, you can't rewind it..i wish it could be...

Espn.com posted the story too....

Probably not to big of a deal for X since after the season but I do feel sorry for Drew. He was a warrior on the court backing down to no one. Unfortuneately this hurt him off the court if he aint backing down to traffic and police.
May be the kickstart Drew needs to work harder. He seemed to have gotten bored at the end of the year and needed a new challenge.
Drew probably has some personal issues that need to be resolved before he begins another episode of life post graduation. The stakes get higher as you get older and take on more responsibility

First of all you don't get arrested for saying"f**k this white club". It probably involved some sort of altercation most likely with a white patron. He could have been provoked, who knows.

The story was covered tonight on KNX Radio (CBS) in Los Angeles, under "Athlete Arrest of the Day." The announcer: "Do you remember when UCLA played Xavier in the Elite Eight? Xavier guard Drew Lavender was big. This is big, too...."

?????

i realize he wasn't arrested for what he said. my point is that what he said was known to the enquirer, and we didn't hear anything about it. it happened last summer, right?

had a white player made similar comments about a "black" niteclub, he would have been crucified in the media, and possibly dismissed from the team. there is a huge double standard in the media. if you don't see that, then you are myopic.

Ok for all of you to bail on drew is wrong. No i don't condone his actions but nobody is perfect by far. For one i'm sure it's been hard on all of you to see us lose the way we did. Think how much harder it is on a person who spent every hour of every day on that. Drew had much more at stake then we did. To lose that game the way they did it still has to be on his chest as well as all the teamates. Although it not be reported the week after we lost in 2004 I seen Lionel Chalmers buying a blunt at BP in over the rhine. HMMM wonder if he just was going to smoke that grape blunt or pack it with a little whacky too?? Nobody is perfect, I'm sure drew is a great kid, just dealing with the loss badly, and didn't deal with the cops very well at all. I wasn't there but drew probaly had an opportunity to walk away, for some reason he didn't, probaly to drunk. Anyways we owe him as fans to back him up whether guilty or not. He's not Chris Henry. He's still a kid with a good chance on a great future. He gave us love all year, let's show him a little in his time of need.

Lots of issues here:
1) I'm a big "where there's smoke there's fire" kind of guy....this clearly is not his first offense, and sad to think that he may have been involved with dope during the season. I had a college teammate who I learned, after the fact, played some games high....it infuriated me to no end. I hope he never did this....ESPECIALLY considering the time and money and energy MANY people put into XU basketball.

2) Dope....no excuse. Don't say, "well he's just 23...or he's a college kid", etc...illegal it is. He's obviously hoping to join the NBA....priorities are NOT straight here for him. Very sad that dope is higher on someone's list than a possibly lucrative career playing a sport.

3) By the time you're 23, I'd hope you'd be able to control yourself after drinking. Is it really that hard to listen to the cop? Sounds to me like if he'd have listened and MOVED from the street...it would have been a NON-INCIDENT. I've been out drinking plenty, I've even vomited once or twice the last 10 years since I was a college student....but I was always able to take care of myself and stay out of trouble. IT IS NOT HARD! Much like Seinfelds 18 year "no vomit" streak, I have a 32 year "no arrest" streak alive right now. There are no 2 ways about it, no excuses. You are a person who either makes good decisions, or you make bad decisions.

4) He is done playing for X, which doesn't bother me in terms of the national media. Regardless, he would have never worn an X jersey again. However, I feel bad that he jeopardized his "standing" at Xavier University. It wounds my heart that other kids and families pay $30,000 a year to be there; he is there for free and takes too many liberties with his celebrity.

5) The comment about the club....disappointing. Nothing else to say. People tend to be a little more honest when drinking.

He'd fit right in in the NBA if he smokes dope. 80-90% of all NBA players smoke the stuff. Trust me it's prevalent on the X campus and I;ve been back for reunions where people still hit the stuff. I'll bet there's people who post on these message boards that smoke on a regular basis. I don't condone of what he did but I'll definitely give him another chance. We all make mistakes. I'm sure he's going through a tough time.

Biff (and I hope that's not your real name), my understanding is that incident happened on "Short Vine". If so, they were REALLY hammered or had never been on campus except for games.

And joey b, if Doellman was in a hip hop club before his senior year and said, "f**k the black patrons", he would not have been alive for his senior year.
