Hello,

Marquette fan here from over at http://www.muscoop.com. I've been checking out various message boards to see what the popular opinions are at each school.

I think it is pretty clear that Xavier is on top of the C7's wish list, so if you want in you are in.

I saw a poster on your boards was worried that Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette would jump ship to a football conference if so invited. First, there is no benefit to any football conference to add a basketball only school so I don't see that happening any time soon. Second, even if one of these schools were to get an invite, they would be entering a situation they were just in by having little to no say in a football ran conference that could be poached at any time. I don't think you have to worry about these schools leaving our future league.

I can't wait to see you guys in conference play as you are one of my favorite teams. I was at both of Xavier's NCAA games in Boise in 2009 and was the Xavier cheer and band host at the 2010 NCAA games in Milwaukee.

Hello there,

Would like to echo Marquette fan's enthusiastic imminent welcome to the BE.
Lots of us over at http://www.redmen.com are extremely anxious about again returning to the top of the basketball conference chain.
You're gonna love the tournament in the Garden.

Friar, Tom, TallTitan, welcome aboard!

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to a hopefully very bright future in the new conference with you guys. There's so much that is going on and changing every day that I'm trying not to dig too far into the details as what's likely to happen today may not exactly be the case tomorrow. Hoping that this new conference and realignment stuff gets worked out very soon for Xavier and the BE7.

Sounds like a lot of promise for Providence in the future and looking forward to having some more manageable road trip destinations (to cities much more fun than Dayton) in Marq and Depaul.

Any word on the promised "press conference" or the advertised A10 meeting that was supposed to be today?

It's just what somebody thinks ...

Unfortunately, no word yet on an official announcement.

Someone else may have insight on the A-10 meeting.

The Blackburn Review highlighted a New York Post article from Saturday, December 15th in one of its blog posts. I thought the article was helpful. It had some information that I had not read before. The article mentions 8 schools supposedly being considered by the BE7.

"With that in mind, the presidents of the Atlantic 10 Conference have scheduled a meeting for Thursday with the intent of trying to solidify commitments from their membership, The Post has learned. According to a person with direct knowledge of the meeting, the A-10 is well aware league members Dayton, St. Louis and Xavier, have “one foot out the door,” to join the Group of Seven in a new conference.

A Post source also said Creighton has been contacted by representatives of the seven Catholic schools that are leaving the Big East. The Group of Seven is looking to add five teams to get to a 12-team league with Eastern and Western Divisions.

Creighton, located in Omaha, Neb., could join with Butler, Dayton, DePaul, Marquette, St. Louis and Xavier in a Western Division. Duquesne also has emerged as a school of interest because it would get the Group of Seven back into Pittsburgh and it has upgraded its facilities with the opening of the Power Center in 2007.

St. Mary’s, from the San Francisco area, and Gonzaga, from Seattle, are also possibilities, but the Group of Seven would have to weigh the travel costs for non-revenue sports against the merits of the two highly respected men’s basketball programs."

The travel costs for us and the Big East schools would be a 1 trip a year deal for each sport. The travel cost for Gonzaga and St Mary's would be huge because half of their games would involve cross country trips. A west coast trip per year could be used as a recruiting tool for us. I don't see how Gonzaga or St Mary's could justify the cost or the lost school time for the athletes.

Would agree about the travel for Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. It's not like major league baseball where they could away for several weeks on an east coast road trip.

Things going full circle. Sounds like the west division would be the old MCC with DePaul and Creighton added. Maybe UC can replace Creighton in the Missouri Valley and get back to the league where they had their NC, joining old rivals Tulsa, Wichita, Bradley, etc.
