Early Season Observations

1) The ASU game was an important win at this stage of the season
2) Our point guard play has to get seriously better if there is any hope of XU getting to the second weekend of the NCAA Tourney
3) Katie Rutan has to start sooner rather than later

Concerning #3, above:
- She can shoot lights out
- She plays pretty darn good defense for a frosh (or senior for that matter)
- She has a mature confidence that belies her first year player status
- Given the ball handling and decision-making abilities displayed by our two point guards in yesterday's game, one wonders if Katie shouldn't be given a look at that position with Dee Dee at the 2

I would really like to see the following players get at least 25 minutes each per game:
Amber Harris
Ta'shia Phillips
April Phillips
Dee Dee Jernigan
Katie Rutan

I'm not sure I agree with you at all. I think the way McGuff is incorporating Katie is just fine. She gives us a nice spark off the bench, and I actually think at this point Tyesha who plays Katie's position is playing better defense than Katie at this point. Our point guard position with Special starting and Leesh backing her up has been very stable. Yes, Special struggled against Arizona State, but we're already trying to boot her out of the position?? No way! I love Dee Dee and Katie and think they both should get a lot of playing time, but I really like this starting five and think they will consistently give us the best chance to win! We will see!
