A10 seeding scenerios

Postby Statman » Fri Mar 07, 2008 9:06 am

YES, I COULDN'T SLEEP!!

2 seed:
If Temple wins, they are the 2 seed, but, if Temple loses 3 other teams could tie their 10-6 record:

Temple & UMass – Temple is the 2
Temple & Richmond – Richmond is the 2
Temple & St. Joe’s – Temple is the 2
Temple, UMass & Richmond – Temple is the 2, UMass the 3
Temple, UMass & St. Joe’s – St. Joe’s is the 2, Temple the 3
Temple, Richmond & St. Joe’s – St. Joe’s is the 2, Richmond the 3
Temple, UMass, Richmond & St. Joe’s – St. Joe’s is the 2, Temple the 3 and Richmond the 4

3 seed:
Assuming Temple wins to lock up the 2, 3 teams could tie with 10-6:

UMass & Richmond – UMass is the 3 seed
UMass & St. Joe’s – St. Joe’s is the 3 seed
Richmond & St. Joe’s – St. Joe’s is the 3 seed

If all 3 teams lose, there are 2 more teams that could tie them with 9-7:

If all 5 tie, the order would be St. Joes, UMass, Richmond, Charlotte, LaSalle.
If Charlotte loses, the order would be St. Joe’s UMass, LaSalle, Richmond.
If LaSalle loses, the order would be St. Joes’s, UMass, Richmond, Charlotte.

Okay, let’s jump to the bottom of the bracket:

A Fordham win gets them in. If Fordham loses and GW loses, Fordham gets the 12 seed, GW is out. If Fordham wins and Duquesne loses, then it depends on who the 2 seed is as to who is the 11 seed. 2 seed Temple or Richmond = Fordham, 2 seed St. Joe’s = Duquesne.

If Fordham and Duquesne win, then Fordham is the 12 seed.

If Duquesne wins, they will be tied with at least St. Louis. If they are the only two at 7-9, Duquesne moves to the 10 seed, and St. Louis is the 11. If Dayton loses and joins the two at 7-9, then Duquesne is the 9 seed, Dayton the 10, and St. Louis the 11.

If it is the Dukes, SLU and URI at 7-9, St. Louis jumps to the 9 seed, and the 10 seed would be determined by how the top of the conference finishes (now this is just getting silly).

If the Dukes, SLU, URI and UD tie at 7-9, Duquesne would be the 8, UD the 9, URI the 10 and SLU the 11. (Okay, who had the Dukes v Xavier in Round 2?)

Okay, my brain is starting to melt. The scenerios that are involved with the possibility of LaSalle, Charlotte, Dayton, Rhode Island and St. Louis all tied at 8-8 are crazy. The worst part is, they are trying for the seeds that Xavier will play in the Quarterfinals. Sorry, you will have to wait until at least Saturday night, when we are down to just 3 games before I try that experiment. And heck, since the answer will be shown on Sunday morning, I may not even attempt this exercise again.

I hope you enjoyed the info, note any corrections, if you see them.

I will not bother to correct anything but thank God it is a snow day for some. That is why you are the statman because guys like me cringe at trying to figure this stuff out.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
