Teams in Conf. Tourneys throw games?

I believe this whether true or not. I truly believe that some or most college basketball teams throw their first or second game in a conference tournament,if they know they are in the Dance and their seed is pretty much set in concrete . It happens every year that top conference tournament seeds lose early........in my view to rest up for the Dance. They have no need to win the tourney to get in and it does not hurt their Dance card seed. Plus for some conferences, they may get another team into the Dance and thus an extra $200,000 for the conference.

Throwing a game is a bit of strong statement.
But motivation may be lacking if you know you are already in vs. knowing you have to win your tournament to get in...no possibility of an at -large bid.

For the past 5 years, the A10 has paid X secretely $20,000 to bow out early so another A10 team can bring $200,000 to the league.

It is motivation. It is hard to manufacture. We beat all these teams already, again and this year with little team depth. I'm glad we are out. Let them all struggle for what they couldn't earn throughout the season. Hopefully, they are all watching X the second weekend of March. Again... Get your rest Muskies...

This is a pretty silly thread by Ron IMO. I don't believe teams throw games, and I think worrying about getting the conference more money isn't even thought about. Losing can only hurt your seed, I don't think X's seed was set in concrete, this loss may hurt X's seed. This has to be considered a fairly bad loss for X, UD's RPI was in the high 70's/low 80's in the RPI before today.
This thread discussed the fact that winning the conference tournament only helps:
