How many teams will the A-10 get in?

Postby XU 87 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:44 pm

At one point the debate was would the A-10 get 4 or 5 teams in. Now I'm wondering if the A-10 can get more than 2 in. Dayton's RPI is in the mid 30's, but I can't imagine they would get in if the season ended today. UMass is back from the dead and has an RPI of 31 with the win over RI. RI is now down to 43 with three straight lossses.

The A-10 is the 7th ranked conference so that should help. But if the season ended today I would say that Xavier and UMass are now in. UD is out. RI is either with the "last four in" group or "the last 4 out" group.

87...it was great seeing you at the game tonight! We know who the real fans are!!!
I'm surprised that you think the pUD Flyers are out. They're 11th in the A10...they may not make the NIT!!!

Good to see you too. As for UMass, although I said the're probably in if the season ended today,, I wonder if the selection committee would take a team that is tied for 5th in the A-10. I hate to say it, but it's conceivable the A-10 is a one bid league. Not likely, but conceivable.

At this point, the A-10 will be lucky to get 3, unless X goes down in the tourney.

too many bad losses. you just can't justify to the committee loosing to la salle or fordham at home. Dissappointing again.

Unfortunately Xavier is the only team to seperate itself.I thought there would be 4 or 5 good teams and the rest of the pack would fall behind them. Now appears there's X and then everyone else is pretty even.Someone other than X needs to win the tournament.UD is DOA and URI is starting to fall apart.I think we'll be lucky to get 3 bids now.

I would have to think UMass is back squarely on the bubble after their win last night. UMass had a solid non-conference season and if they can get to 10 wins in the conference, you would have to like their chances.

Dayton will be back in the mix if they win out (of course that would mean beating us on Sunday) and win a couple games in the A-10 tourney. Otherwise, they're done.

URI is in trouble. They had a weak non-conference schedule and have lost 4 of 5 now.

I say that if either X or RI win the a10 then the a10 gets 2 bids (X and RI). If someone else then 3 bids. Dayton needs to win out to get themselves back in the hunt, and maybe Umass or St. Joe but only if they knock off X or RI in the a10 tourney

I'm hoping the commitee doesn't punish the league too much, because overall there are some pretty good teams in the league this year.

This seems to change on a daily basis, but I really think Xavier and Umass- are in solidly now.

Xavier for obvious reasons.

UMass has a solid sos, good road wins (this is the main reason I think they get in) and very good non-conferences wins. It will be hard to ignore them.

If Rhode Island finishes strong that would put them at 24-7, I think that would get them in. (Very Feasible) Do you think Rhody would lose 3 in a row at home ?

I think its kind of hard to, put too much stock in finishing 5th place over say 3rd or something in this league. Because of the unbalanced scheduling. In theory Duquense, has the easiest schedule, so you would expect them to win more games.

Dayton, St Joe's- good luck at this point.

After looking at UMass' remaining schedule, they really should win the rest of their games. Of the A-10 bubble teams, they have the easiet road the rest of the way by far. It should help them get a better seed in the A-10 tourney, and if they win a game or two, I would have to think they will get in.

BTW, look at St. Joe's schedule down the stretch - it is brutal. If they can win these, they will get in as well - they have a few more quality wins on that schedule (including us at home).
