Agree.
The NC TWO A is going to drop the hammer on IU on a number of counts that IMO will amount to loss of scholly's, off campus recruiting, and no post season tournament for as much as two years.
Davis has to be laughing loud.
Still like the idea put forward that they will bring Bobby back to see them thru this mess, and his "Mr Clean" rep just might soften the NCAA's hammer.

Very good point...Plus I really don't think there's gonna be anything to worry about till the summer anyway. IU will let everything play out fully before they make any decisions. They don't want a Jim O'Brien case on their hands.

How about this for a doomsday scenario.....
Sampson fired for obvious reasons
AD fired for hiring Sampson
Administration looking for AD and Head Coach that have proven track record of success, doing it the right way.
Bobo and Miller to IU.
that would suck

Re: Miller/ IU speculators...
they're not getting a two year tournament ban. that's ridiculous. saint bonaventure only ended up with a one year postseason ban, and that was 50 times worse than anything IU ever dreamed of doing. the hammer isn't going to come down on IU nearly as hard as you think it will. if it were that big of a deal, the ncaa would be acting much more aggressively than they already are. kelvin sampson is gone. at MOST, iu loses one scholarship, but they probably won't even lose that. they may have some recruiting restrictions, but nothing serious.Wisexuowl wrote:Agree.

sampson made illegal phone calls. he wasn't paying players. he wasn't making arrangements to have people write term papers for his players. boosters were not giving away illegal gifts. indiana is fine. sampson is in deep doodoo because he lied, but this is not a serious infraction as far as iu is concerned. the fact that their record has been spotless for about 40+ years will also be factored in. universities that get in the kind of trouble that you're suggesting have done something far worse than making too many phone calls.

What Sampson did wasn't that bad, but it is the second time he has done it. I think the NCAA is going to be more strick then you would think. They hate when people neglect their rules, and they hate it even more when they do it for the second time. I think we have to wait and see what they do, and that will tell you if anyone worth while is going to want the job.

Re: Miller/ IU speculators...
Never say never. Like everybody else I want him to stay. But finding all the reasons he will stay really does not do much in the long run.
I did not want Skip to go to Wake and did not think he would.
I did not want Thad to go to OSU and did not think he would.
Stuff happens. I just find it useless to come up with all the reasons why a coach will not leave but ultimately it really means nothing.
I don't know much more than I have read about the IU situation but personally would be surprised if Sampson were let go until there are more than accusations. From what I hear it is a money thing.
Frankly Miller's name will come up with any big opening and I for one refuse to lose sleep over it.

It doesn't help when you were once the President of the NCAA ethics committee. Kind of a slap in the face in the institution as a whole.xcellent wrote:What Sampson did wasn't that bad, but it is the second time he has done it. Re: Miller/ IU speculators...
sampson is in a lot more trouble than iu is, especially since the restrictions weren't levied on iu in the first place. they agreed to adopt the restrictions when they hired him as coach. it's not as if nothing is going to happen to them. i'd expect them to have the number of recruiting contacts limited and they'll possibly lose a scholarship. however, they won't receive a postseason ban, much less a TWO year ban. i'd also be surprised if the recruiting restrictions levied on IU will last for more than one year. their program is spotless, but even if it wasn't i don't think this would warrant a postseason ban.
keep in mind that indiana has until may to respond. they're are ncaa compliance officers on IU's campus. whatever IU comes up with as being an appropriate punishment for itself probably won't be expanded on by the ncaa. it usually isn't. they're not in THAT much trouble. i seriously doubt it's enough to discourage a candidate from taking the job.
