Ryan Cincinnati, Ohio: Pat, if Xavier wins out in the regular season and wins their conference tournament is there a chance they could compete for a #1 seed?

Pat Forde: (2:01 PM ET ) Ryan: Intriguing question. I think they have an outside shot at it. Great record, dominant in their league, and currently a #8 RPI. They'd need some teams to stumble in front of them, but they're starting to force themselves into the conversation.

Simulating the end of the season (rpiforecast) 10,000 times shows that Xavier has between a 0.0001 and a 0.0250 chance of having the 4th highest RPI. So rather than speculating, you have some numbers that might be relevant to our chance at a 1 seed.

My own opinion is that we have a greater chance at earning a berth to the Final Four than being awarded a No 1 seed. That's fine with me.
