I Hate For-Damn even more now!

Postby Masterofreality » Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:31 am

Hey, I know that this probably belongs on the A-10 chatboard, and it really doesn't affect Xavier, and that it is more about UMass just having their manhood ripped from them, but...

I hate For-Damn, even more now that they actually tried last night and won a really good game at UMass. Here's why.

I hate them for all of the background stuff, like their ancient grade school gym, their lack of true committment to their program, their fossillized Athletic Director who dissed XU's NIT chances in 2005, and the fact that they haven't contributed a dime to the A-10 coffers via any post season appearances since being allowed to join this conference, but past that..

They actually have a senior laden team with some talent this year. Rather than taking pride in what kind of legacy they could leave behind, however, like the Xavier seniors do, guys like Stout, Greene and Dunston basically have slept their way through the season, more concerned about their own individual stats than the team results. They have a lousy non-conference record, thereby hurting the league overall, then they laze their way through the conference schedule, dropping their RPI almost down to 200, until..they happen to have a national TV game on ESPN2. All of a sudden, they hustle, they work on defense, they share the ball and play a great basketball game for the national audience, beat UMass and screw up UMAss's RPI and NCAA resume with a horriffic loss on paper. Now, that one loss may give the committee an excuse to only take 3 from the A-10 costing the league members Tournament money.

Hell, For-Damn just fall over like you've done all year. Play hard against Lossalle, not against the teams that matter.

So, in summary. For-Damn not only contributes nothing, but now they're intent on COSTING everyone money too.

What Clowns!

I blame UMass for losing that game, not Fordham for winning it.

Fordham has likely underachieved, no doubt, and last night's loss really hurt UMass' NCAA chances, but the Minutemen and the Flyers were on downward spirals anyway, while URI, SJU and Temple may now take, or at least contend, for those spots.

Boot 'em!

NYC is a total "pro" town .. and there is no TV time or print space for college sports ... unless it's being played in the Garden.

Last month we were talking about the A-10 getting either 4 or 5 bids. Now I think we're talking about the A-10 getting two or three bids.

UD and UMass have played their way out of the NCAA. They could play their way back in, but that seems unlikely.

I agree 87.UD and UMASS are falling apart. The best thing for the A10 would be for URI and SJU to beat Xavier and for someone other than X to win the A10 tourney.Obviously we don't want that to happen but it would be better for the league.

I see the sinister hand of Bruno, MOR. You've only got a few more months to flog her. MOR and Bruno: no degrees of separation!

Getting rid of Bona or LaSalle makes so much more sense than dumping Fordham, for several reasons. Fordam is making plans for a new gym. And there is plenty of sports mania in NYC...but you have to win. Look at St. Johns until recently.

Whatever Fordham does, it does us good to go there every other year. Hate it all you want, but the media is there. Great players are there, and we can promise them a game at home. Why do you think we have this new recruiting guru from the Gauchos?

In addition to Fordham's supposed new Arena (which I will believe when I see it!), how has Fordham's presence in NYC helped in recruiting? When was the last NYC kid signed by Xavier? Why did XU feel the need to hire Book Richardson if we already had such a good tie into NYC-area kids through Fordham's membership in the A-10.

I just don't buy those reasons for the Ram's continued presence in the league.
