is Miller staying if we go to the sweet sixteen? I think he leaves to much greener pastures. As much as Xavier U enjoys the success of the men's basketball program, I doubt the admin/Jesuits want the program to outshine the education one receives at our school. And therein lies the rub. In order for us to elevate to true major conference power status, the admin needs to be willing to pay $2-3 MM/yr and I don't think this is ever going to happen.
Any thoughts??

Re: The BIG question...
Sweet first post troll. The real big question is if you are from Dayton and are coming to grips with the fact that your team may not even make the NIT, or if you are from Butler and are just pissed off at the thread involving your team. You couldn't have made it more obvious; get off of this board you turd.

Can't we just enjoy this season? I'm not in the least worried about Miller leaving.

Re: The BIG question...
Btw, I love Miller and would love to pay him 2-3 MM per year and retire at X. It would be nice to have a reasoned discussion about the turnover of coaches at MY SCHOOL.
And not that I need to justify myself, but I graduated from Xavier in 1988 and returned to my alma mater to take classes to attend Med school.

I'm the resident skeptic, and something just doesn't add up, XUPride.

Re: The BIG question...
I have a BSBA in Finance from X and went back to take all my pre-req's for post grad education. And you're right, I am 42 and love helping others...Also, I graduated from St X in 1984in the man for others tradition.
I love going to all of the home games and have attended all post season games since D West era. Atlanta was incredible during the run...Chalmers and a charge..come on!!
Anyway, X does have a history of losing great coaches from Gillen, Prosser, and the Beak. Just wanted an intelligent back and forth.
The troll comment was out of line. Enough said.

Re: The BIG question...
Don't worry about the troll comments XUPride. This board has a serious complex when it comes to new posters. Everyone and their mom is considered a Dayton, UC and/or some distant mid major fan until they hand over their SS# and the background check comes in. I just wouldn't worry about it.
That aside... I'm sorry, but Xavier is a Basketball school. Period. Our academic reputation nationally is limited to a couple ranked programs. Regionally it is high, but I think overrated. I would, of course, never mention this in a job interview, but out of all the Universities I have studied and or worked at, Xavier is just above average for a smaller private, liberal arts university. It is not a major research institution, and never will be. Its reputation in the city (other than a couple programs) is probably overrated. What you get at XU is a guarantee that you will have a professor teaching your class, smaller classes and a lot of attention. Its a cozy atmosphere, and it is a recognizable name. But... the university has only invested money in select disciplines (MBA, for example), and there is absolutely no guarantee that any given professor is well-published, let alone even known in his or her respective academic community. Sure, I remember the average GPA of incoming freshman going up each year, and that creates a certain environment, and I had some really good profs in my two majors, but it just doesn't compete to the academic demands of a research institution. But our coaches have been top notch, and the administration has paid good money to get them in... we just need Miller to be the one who stays. The administration is aware of the fact that, since the millennium program, Basketball is the ticket to success. Has been for the last 20 years and will continue to be. Xavier is a basketball school.

Re: The BIG question...
I should add two things to my post... Xavier is "just above average" for the small liberal arts college thing, because most of them offer a solid education. The difference being that X is known nationally, primarily due to Bball, and has invested lots of money in facilities over the last decade or so.
Second, another thing the incoming freshman is guaranteed is a 20 win season and a post-season appearance! In my opinion, crucial to the college experience.

We were classmates for eight years then.I hope you got more out of those finance classes than I did.
If IU fires Sampson(which they should) Miller will be at the top of their list. I hope he doesn't leave. It would be nice to have a coach who would commit to X like Martelli has to SJU.I'm sure over the years he has had offers to leave there for greener pastures but has chosen to stay put.I don't see X paying anyone $2-3 mill a year. Can't say I blame them.
