No Love From The Enquirer
We win a big game on the road with Burrell in foul trouble, Drew not at his best, and Duncan having the biggest game of his career and we get the headline at the bottom of the page, under UC beating St. Johns?? And below another article about that jacka$$ Chad Johnson and the Bengals? On Am 1530 this morning they were making the argument that UC has more local fans so they deserve the bigger story. What????????

Re: No Love From The Enquirer
I heard recently that we have about 35,000 alumni in Greater Cincinnati. I'm guessing UC probably has 250,000. If you're the Enquirer, which do you cover more?
Golf is a relatively simple game, played by reasonably intelligent people, stupidly.

Re: No Love From The Enquirer
So, Maryland has about 100,000 alumni and Georgetown has about 35,000 around Washington, but when Georgetown is ranked, they get more pub in DC.
Xavier is ranked 12th. UC is about 100. The story is Xavier, not a middlin' UC squad. The arguments about the alumni are BS.
Xavier will continue to get more positive press nationally than locally.

But you must remember the Enquirer is a print medium, how many of those 250,000 can read??

Re: No Love From The Enquirer
So if Moeller High School happens to win the state basketball title I'll look for the article on page 10 because they have an even smaller fan base than a college. Fan base shouldn't dictate where the story goes, the story should.

Re: No Love From The Enquirer
UC is a MAJOR program, XU is a mid-major, more people care about UC than XU, hence the coverage! look for your team on page 5 of the Enquirer, LOL, the irony.
you play teams like St. Bona sisters of the poor, La Salle #5 in PHilly, DU-QUES-NE, no one cares. UC plays ND, NOVA, Syracuse, UCONN, etc. what is the bigger story?

Butlerbulldogs,
Hhahha. Nice touch. You're more than welcome here anytime you want to point out irony, especially if makes you look stupid. Shall we talk Horizon League?
Fact is, until XU actually wins a national championship, or at least reaches Final Four status, we are second to UC in coverage by default. It will take that much to sway public perception and gain more followers. There are thousands of UC fans waiting for their re-emergence. That said, I think the ratio of alumni to quality fans is obviously much higher at XU than UC.
Winning is sort of a way of life, expected, this year at X. They haven't exceeded or failed to meet expectations, so they are sort of cruising. UC, aside from it's large alumni base, draws a sort of "unlikely underdog" appeal this year, and that's a story.
Lastly, St. John's isn't exactly inspirational, either. Sisters of the Poor? Maybe not. But I'd bet UC's old nemesis Charlotte would take them 7 out of 10.

Nice touch by the Bearcrapper. But I guess when your team blows and you have to watch them play crap teams like St. John's, Seton Hall, South Florida teams of that ilk and you lose to teams like Belmont and Bowling Green at home and your team is 12-12 you have a little envy of a powerhouse like Xavier in your own town. Must suck to always look up at Xavier. See when your team has Cincinnati across your chest and you suck you will always have the local media to apologize for you to make everyone feel better.butlerbulldogs wrote:UC is a MAJOR program, XU is a mid-major, more people care about UC than XU, hence the coverage! look for your team on page 5 of the Enquirer, LOL, the irony.

Also, for those not familiar with how a newspaper works, when you get toward deadline, as stories come in, you tend to give them a higher spot on the front page. UC's game ended at 9:00, Xavier's closer to 10:00. With deadlines to get to the printer, they will tend to leave a little room at the bottom for the late arriving story.
Get over it Xavier fans. Check the USA Today, and you will see a story on Xavier, and no story on UC. They aren't even in the story about the many bubble teams.
