LSU Vacancy
I hate when the big school programs have coaching vacancies. You know Miller's name will be somehow in the mix, especially with the year we're having.

John Brady was fired. The story gives details.
Not even two full years removed from a Final Four. If anybody thought high Div. I college b-ball was anything other than a high-pressure meatgrinder, this should disabuse them of that notion.
This is one reason why coaches jump when they get the chance-because they get fired at the drop of a hat.

The only confirmed screen name banned for life on Xavier Hoops!

Re: LSU Vacancy
Brady was a "bad hire" coming to a big time, consistent NCAA tournament with a great deal of success under Dale Brown as Brady was an plus ten game over .500 coach at SAMFORD. He had had success as a Louisiana high school coach, but it never translated into great recruiting.
In eleven years he had that one flash of success, but not anything else to hang his hat on.
Personally, and for 36 years I have been close to the LSU program, Brady came nowhere close to keeping the program at the level he inheirted.
It's a great job. Great facilities. Rabid fans, and within 300 miles (a distance Mommy and Daddy can drive easily to games) there are rich recruiting area's ... Baton Rouge, Shreveport, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas etc.
And it's a great city to live in with great weather.
And dash ... not only shouldn't you ever say "no way" ... but never, never say NFW when it involves a coach changing jobs.
They'll line up from BR to Boston for this job.

Re: LSU Vacancy
Looks like it already has....
From CBS
Final thought: Another week, another coach goes down.
But this one is different because it'll start the domino effect that's always crazy.
No more John Brady at LSU means LSU needs a new coach, and the first place the school will look is Southern California's Tim Floyd. It's no secret LSU has always been Floyd's dream job because he's from the area. But living in Los Angeles -- and coaching in the new Galen Center -- is kinda dreamy too, and the early word out of Baton Rouge is the school might not be willing to pay the type of money it would take to lure Floyd from the sweet situation he's enjoying.
If LSU won't pay, Floyd probably won't move -- in which case some obvious targets are Virginia Commonwealth's Anthony Grant, Ole Miss' Andy Kennedy and Washington State's Tony Bennett. But for the sake of argument, let's pretend Floyd does move to LSU because that's when things could get really silly.
Would Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon then take the Southern California job?
(Perhaps. But I'm not sure he'd want to battle UCLA's Ben Howland).
Would Xavier's Sean Miller then move to Pittsburgh?
(Definitely. He would move to Pitt in like 1.2 seconds)
So yeah, the speculation is endless and head-spinning and tiresome.
But we're going to ride this coaching carousel again this March, for sure.

Re: LSU Vacancy
Uh, Wise, Brady inherited an LSU team that had won 45 games in the 4 years before he arrived. During that stretch, Brown was 18-46 in the SEC. They were not winning, they had no talent, and they were going under one of the longest and most severe probations ever imposed short of the death penalty. LSU fans should be very thankful that he didn't keep the program close to the one that he inherited.
BTW. Samford had won 5 games total the 3 years before Brady arrived. Turning that program around was one of the better feats ever achieved in college basketball.

Re: LSU Vacancy
sean will leave and we'll get the next sean miller and xavier will move on,
but not for this job, X is a differant situation than in the past, our continued sucess in the a10 and on a national level as well as good wages and facilities make X a job that is much tougher to leave. Miller has great inroads at high schools around the great lakes and has sucessfully recruited a new level of talent to Xavier.
He will move on, and it will hurt but it will not be for the lsu's of the world, sean will bide his time and take the job he wants, a school with proper emphasis on basketball that is among the elite programs in the country, high end big east teams...acc or big ten, sec seems very unlikely and a bad fit for bbal outside of fla or kentucky

I find it a little incredible that LSU has fired a coach who took them to the final four two years ago.

Re: LSU Vacancy
Lets hope Miller stays for a long time. If he should leave someday, then we wish him the best like we did Prosser and Gillen (notice who I left out). I trust that Sean would leave the program in such great shape that finding the next great coach won't be a problem. In the meantime, lets kick St. Joe's a$$ this Sunday.
