Redford

Postby sergiogarcia » Wed Jan 30, 2008 10:14 am

My buddy sent me this article about how Mr. Basketball in Michigan is up for grabs this year and mentions a few of the people in the running. Funny how a few of them are coming to our conference which is nice to see.

"Redford, a 6-foot guard who signed with Xavier, has his team 14-0 and ranked No. 4 in Class B. He's averaging 38 points for a team on which he's the tallest player. He has the state record for consecutive free throws made (75 and counting), is shooting 98 percent from the line and 46 percent on 3-pointers."

That is a CRAZY line on this kid. Obviously he can flat out score against every junk defense out there and is money from the line. Hopefully he can get everyone else involved in the game too...sounds like that will be the learning curve but where he's at he must be the only scoring option.

Class B what does that mean in Mich.? Is it small school etc?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Class B is the second largest class out of 4, going from A to D.

I was not aware that he is the tallest player on his team. I know Frankenmuth claims it is the German roasted chicken capital of Michigan, if not the world, but had no idea a class B team could play with no one over 6'!

As remarked in earlier threads, there are some 6-8 studs on the top ranked Class A team, Saginaw. The top candidate is going to MSU, so there will be pressure to name him Mr.B. On the other hand, if the votes are spread around coaches from the four classes and writers from some of the smaller newspapers, Reford could be the feelgood "Hoosiers" candidate.

Are we going to have to import the chicken for him like Wade Boggs?

I'm impressed that Oakland has two players on the list.

I'm so impressed with Redford's numbers, anything less than a little Pistol Pete running around the Cintas is going to be severely disappointing. I guess I bitch then, not now.

Perhaps our coaching staffs have made a poor choice among their recruits now and then through the last 25 or more years. One might point to Sidney Raeford, Obi Harris, Marcus Mason, and the like, but they have thankfully been few and far between. For every Churchill Odia, we have gotten 3-4 guys like Kevin Frey, Darnell Williams, Stanley Burrell, Romain Sato, Lionel Chamlers, David West, or Drew Lavender.

I'll continue to trust the talent scouting abilities of Sean Miller, Chris Mack, James Whitford, and "Book" Richardson and be happy to add the rare miss here and there to the "Odia Column"!
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!
