ST JOHNS GAME THREAD 2.0

Postby muskieman » Sat Feb 07, 2026 9:51 pm

When: Monday, Feb 9, 6:30 p.m.

Where: New York, N.Y. (Madison Square Garden)

TV: FS1 with play-by-play from Alex Faust and analysis from Donny Marshall.
Radio: 700 WLW

With X coming off a 32-point shellacking by UConn and St John's taking down said same UConn by 9, this one looks like it in the bag for X. It would be nice to go back to the 2015 to 2021 record

Xavier is 4-2 vs. St. John's at Madison Square Garden, including 3-2 in BIG EAST Conference regular season play and 1-0 in BIG EAST Tournament play.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Good first half. Need to get Anderson and Carroll going. Robinson is playing aggressively. Nice to see . We need for Milicevic to play 10 minutes in the second half.

Down three with 56 second left. That three points look big as Moore, Walker and Jovan all foulded out

Well good effort but we should have beat St. John's again. It's tough to win when down the stretch your setting up your offense 35 feet from the basket. The reason is Moore doesn't want the ball at the end of games. He doesn't want to bring it up or handle the ball at the end of games. Filip ends up with the ball and does his hesitation stop and start dribbling thing. We end up with last second fall away shots. Playing timid is a bad idea at the end of games. On the plus side we might have found a physical , rim rattling center. Robinson played like he finally realized that he is 6 foot 10 250 lb dude. He battled Ejiofor all night and hung in there physically .I think we would have won if Robinson was in there the last couple of minutes instead of Milicevic. Moore and Milicevic had tough second half's .Close but no cigar again

Or we didn't turn the ball over three times at the end. Carroll is not getting those calls at the end of games similar to the game a few weeks ago, so he doesn't need the ball in his hand at crunch time. We were up five in regulation and then down three within a minute based on a terrible 3 by Filip and airball by Jovan and a horrible take by Tre. I like what Richard is doing, but he did not do himself any favors at the end of regulation and OT. We do foul a lot, but many of those calls on us were silly. Hopkins got a lot of calls and he isn't even aggressive. ARob needs to be in the game vs St Johns and UConn based on his size. Unfortunately, he is awful from the stripe.

I thought the game was well officiated. X is pure finesse, with the exception of Carroll. The Johnnies are physical and attacked the rim. X lacking both physicality and athleticism to stay in front of their man was the reason for the great discrepancy.

Milicevic is as horrific defensively as Roddie is with his shot selection. I get the fact that he is playing as an undersized big, but he plays defense with his thighs and leans in on his man on every shot.

I too like Robinson's aggressiveness and better D, but the only shot he can make is a dunk. I want him back next year........at 30% of the NIL bag he got this year. He also cannot be the lead big, either.

I agree that the strategy of giving Carroll the ball 35 feet away with 20 seconds to go was insane, but absolutely disagree that Moore doesn't want the ball. To the contrary, he and Carroll have been the best offensive players since BE play, and I told my son Moore or Filip should have had the ball. Motsa ball-sized screw up by RP.
