Plenty of games left for things to change again and again. But. After the week end games the Big East teams making MM went from a guaranteed 5 to just 4. Of the first 8 teams OUT, four are BE teams, but none of those four BE teams is Xavier. So basically as of 2-13-2024 ESPN does not have Xavier in the field of 68 and not in the first 8 teams OUT. If true, X has a lot of winning to do to get in to MM.

4 BE teams makes sense. The conference has 3 very good to great teams. The 4th is good to very good and then there are several more solid to good teams. 1 of those in the next tier will likely move into the tournament but probably need to separate themselves from the rest of the pack or have other teams from the various other conferences suffer a bad loss or multiple losses.

Xavier still has a shot to fight their way back into the tournament but the odds are low. Early season struggles against mediocre teams plus numerous close losses against good to great teams require almost perfection to close the season.

Whether X makes the tournament or not, I hope the close out getting after it on the defensive end. If they do this, the season was a success regardless of how many more wins materialize.
