Despite a fun performance against Pitt, I will continue to bet against Xavier. Hoping to lose more money and see them in Houston.
Hopefully the team is feeling the energy of the last game combined with the elimination of pressure now that they are the underdog. Keep the ball moving. This team is so fun to watch when they keep working for open looks. Fans may notice that in games Xavier has gotten blown out, they stopped passing and started playing 1 on 1, with everyone trying to save the day rather than stick with what got them there.

When they dropped that 20 point lead near the end, it seemed they sllipped into “me” ball. Not enough passing and took … and missed … about half a dozen 3’s in a row, most of them early in the shot clock. Great way to loose a lead and confidence. Stop that and hit free throws a must against Texas.

I still remember the 1990 Xavier vs Texas in the Sweet 16. Xavier had just come off a big upset of Georgetown 74-71. Georgetown had Mourning and Mutombo. We had Tyrone Hill ( 20 points and 12.6 rebounds ) and Derek Strong ( 14 points and 9.9 rebounds ) plus a freshman Aaron Williams who got the winning bucket vs Georgetown . All three of our guys had long NBA careers. Back than they only had one network televising the tournament and it wasn't on TV back EAST. We lost 102-89. Derek strong had 27 points and 14 rebounds and Hill had 22 points and 15 rebounds. They called 28 fouls against Xavier that game. Texas was a 10 seed. To this day that was the worst loss I ever remember. I didn't see the game but it was such a let down. Time to get our revenge. Go X.

My daughter and I went to Dallas for the game, and after the game, she was really upset by the loss. Jamal Walker saw her and was consoling her before he got on the team bus. We kind of lost track of time and missed our ride, and were left at the arena by ourselves, there were no cabs, so we started to walk back to the hotel. A Dallas public work truck pulled up as we were crossing at a light, and the driver asked us if we were lost. After telling him where we were going, he said to climb up, and I will take you. We found out that the downtown area we were in was not a safe place. Needless to say, he got a nice tip but refused until I told him he helped protect my little girl and deserved it. She was 14 at the time and later became a Xavier grad in nursing.

I was at that game vs Texas in Indy, their big guards were overpowering. I was also at the great win vs Texas in Atlanta in 2004. For me the next game after that, the loss to Duke, and the Coach K ref effect, was the second most painful loss. The gut wrencher to Ohio State in which Greg Oden was allowed to get away with an intentional foul against Justin Cage, stayed with me a long time.
We played Texas close in the NIT with Zach Hankins.
If we play them on Friday with confident self-assertion, we’ll do well.

Muskieman did we get a fair shake from the refs? Twenty eight fouls is a lot. Nice story about the cab driver. That Xavier team was my All time favorite. I saw them play out here in San Francisco in a two game tournament. We sat right behind the Xavier bench. Pete Gillen had a salty tongue and didn't spare any of them. LOL

Edit: I realize I remember Texas dismantling the team they played in Indy. They played X similarly in Dallas.
