Good Riddence Ike

Postby Wisexuowl » Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:43 pm

My first wife and last wife are fine, and thank you for your concern.
I have always taken caution about hurricanes and this is the third one I have experienced .. the first was the worst .. in 1953 at sea in "Carol" which was a Cat 5, and one in New orleans that ended up being a TS.
We abandoned our house Friday afternoon and went to our son's place west of here (we are on the west side too) and rode it out. No power either place until Sunday evening, and then it went off until Monday afternoon. Our house power came back on this morning (Tuesday).
The downtown of Houston and everything east got hammered being on the "dirty side."
Galveston at one point was under water. They are not allowing any re-entry to Galveston. Summer developments and retirement areas along the coast have been wiped out.
FEMA, even without Brownie, did their usual magnificent job. They rolled in trucks and trucks of MRE's and ice, parked them all at the football stadium lot, and when the Guv and Mayor asked when they were going to take them to points of distribution (POD's), the "new" Mikey(Chernoff) said that wasn't their job after setting all of them up over the last year and telling one and all they would be there.
Someday, I hope, they will turn all of FEMA's work over to the National Guard, and take it out of the hands of political appointees.
BTW, five sections of the football stadium's roof was blown down. My son said, "it is more retractable than they thought."
Thanks for your concern, and sorry Ike got to Ohio like that.
Pace Domini!

Wise,
Glad to hear you and family are safe.
We have a few of your townies here but they are going to met up with family and head to Corpus Christi in the morning.
Take care,

Wise glad to hear you are safe and sound. BTW it is interesting that you have been in hurricanes three time never in the same spot. I could see being in Miami or the gulf shores and getting caught in one two or three but maybe those things are following you or you stir them up. Just kidding.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
