TAM is a tough successful team and X needs to bring their A-game. Inside scoring for X, turning TAM over, they average 12 per game, which is one of their weaknesses, and stopping TAM's drives without fouling will determine success. TAM plays a lot of guys(11 guys average double-digit minutes) TAM has a little St Johns in their game so X needs to be better than this year's games. Containing Quenton Jackson's game(Aver 14.6 points) is important as he is their go-to guy, shoots a lot of FTs but can get to the rim and shoot the threes. X can't let him go off for big numbers. He averages 14.6 points (48.9% from the field, 34.7% 3PT). X needs to protect the rock because TAM is 3rd in the nation in steals

Nice synopsis. Hope X plays their Twin Towers of Nunge and Freemantle together at times tonight. We are a bit short on smaller guys with Scruggs gone. I hadn't posted in years and just posted on another thread. It was big national news in 1958 when we won it all. Not so much now, but it was still big in 1984 when I watched us beat Ohio St & Nebraska. Texas A&M sort of deserves this title since the NCAA truly snubbed them this year.
Who deserves it don't matter. It sure will be nice to start next season with a winning streak. Only 2 teams get to do that. If this turns out to be the Final NIT at MSG, well - I'd like X to be the answer to that future trivia question. Cutting the Nets is nice - no matter the location. Go Muskies. Hope to finish 15-1 in non BE games.

Will be listening to Byron & Joe on the radio from my back porch in Florida. I thought ESPN has this game. I've been boycotting them anyhow.
When I went to espn.com and checked the NCAA BBALL schedule for tonight it said NO GAMES SCHEDULED. No articles on the NIT there. XU forever.
ESPN hasn't been turned on by me often in couple of years. Won't start tonight. Happiness will come instead from the radio broadcast

The NITs were huge in the 50s, but you don't hear any X fans talking about it, because the program has experienced great success in the last forty years, particularly in the 2000s. Usually programs who don't have relevant programs, and haven't had any real sustained success hearken back to.....say the 60s when comparing themselves to other teams. It is like an old man and former Radio Shack manager walking into a Best Buy and pointing his cane at one of the workers and saying, "Our company is more successful than yours!" Even the Loyola Ramblers, wo won it in 1964, are too embarrassed to do that.

Minor correction - Loyola won the NCAA Tournament in 1963 vs. two time defending Champs Cincinnati. The Title game was on “tape delay” in Chicago. I was a young lad then and already in bed.

Never hurts to keep playing and the NIT provided that opportunity for X this year. The 2019 NIT Champ was Texas and X gave them the best challenge in that tourney, losing 78-76. Texas made the NCAA Tournament in 2020, which was subsequently cancelled. Memphis won the NIT in 2021 and had a good 2022 NCAA run, losing to Gonzaga 82-78 in the 2nd Round.

My thought is the NIT Championship run may have galvanized a ream which appeared splintered. Plus, Coach Miller could sit and closely assess all facets of the Staff and Players.

We will all shake our heads about the 2021-22 Season. Yet, we have something to hang onto as X played up-to its image in the NIT.
