X vs the Bonnies

Postby Anti-Homer » Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:32 pm

Another impressive showing by Hayes. They lose their pseudo-alpha male in Scruggs (great warrior, but played too much hero ball), and never relinquished the lead after the first few minutes. Other than Kunkel's garden variety, 27 foot bombs 10 seconds into the shot, they ran a very good half court offense with few bad shots. Like Fran and the country knew, this team had the goods to make a deep run in March, something which would have also been a garden variety year for X the past two decades until 2018.

I'm not taking an unwarranted shot against Steele, because I do wish him all the best, and he worked his as# off, but he just didn't have the goods. Again, it gives me no pleasure to state the obvious that my analysis about Steele, Scruggs, and Free were spot on this year. Thank you all in advance for your acknowledgement to that fact by the way. I think Scruggs would have been a much better player under Hayes also, as Free was tonight, because of one word: accountability.

I hope Hayes stays. With him and Miller on the bench, X won't have to just hope our players play better. There are no alphas on this team, but Ward has the potential to be one next year if he comes. If not, I have zero concerns that X would have its customary Top 20 talent in the very near future. Miller has also shown that he can win without any alphas with the 08 team. X has been the only good sports team in town until 2018 for the past two decades, and the Bengals filled that void last year, and will for the foreseeable future. Now we have the fall and winter covered. If only the Reds could hold up their end of the bargain.

Hayes is writing his resume in capital letters so far. Wish him well. Hope he stays but we should expect offers for a Head Coaching job will be coming. Let's enjoy the ride though. Thursday will be special!

Agreed, and when ESPN wasn’t too busy Beer Barrel and the Bonnie fans, it seemed like the X kids were really happy and together. Free whose last 4 games have been exemplary, virtually skipped off the court. He and Jack combined for 36points and 14 boards, I’d love to see them together next year under Miller.

Hayes has been awesome.

Wish we would have waited on hiring a new head coach. Hayes deserves the job, not Miller.

Let Miller rehab his image as lead assistant for Coach Hayes.

Makes me wonder if they shouldn't have made the change to Hayes sooner.Maybe we would have made the NCAA tournament. He seems to coach according to the circumstances of the game where Steele just said I'm rolling the dice with these players

This is water under the bridge folks. The season devolved, (again), and change can be a dicey imperfect process. I just love the way our new troll, xaviermuskie2003, uses each and every post to disparage Miller. Atta boy '2003, your tired act incites no one. But we digress. How about we sit back and enjoy this ride. As fun as it has been, and as impressive as Coach Hayes and the remaining staff have performed, it really only reaffirms that sadly the issues were stemming from the former head coach. There is absolutely zero doubt Coach Steele gave it all he had and wore his Xavier Blue heart on his sleeve. But ball don't lie. I am extremely pleased and comforted that the AD and President had the stones to make a hard decision and release a good man, who gave it his all. Now let's go win a 'Ship

Why take a shot at me? Seems I'm one of the few fans who isn't a hypocrite and has some principles when it comes to our basketball program- "The Front Porch of Our University." There were far better men we could have hired.

After years of taking shots at the corruption surrounding LSU, Arizona, Kansas, Auburn...here we are hiring a head coach who:

1. Altered Rawle Alkins transcripts to ensure eligibilty (everyone seems to ignore this one)

2. Helped arrange payments for multiple players that got his friend and assistant thrown in prison (then he didnt help Book in order to protect himself)

3. When the allegations first came out, Sean Miller emphatically denied he knew or had ever spoken to Christian Dawkins. FBI releases audio of them talking and joking around multiple times. Miller then goes silent on the matter.

I can't figure out why no one seems to want to acknowledge or discuss what an awful hire this was. The "Xavier Way" is out the door for Sean Miller.

Coach Miller lied and cheated repeatedly at Zona, but for some reason X fans believe every word out of his mouth at the press conference. Miller is a con man.

Jonas Hayes should be our Head Coach.

Firest I love what Jonas has done for X this March and hope he can bring home a Championship. That said I wonder how this team would do with him at the helm against BE schools? Travis was good against Non-BE schools too.

to answer your numbered comments.

#1 I am sure Miller when into the school's computer and changed grades right after he hacked Morgan Stanley and the DOD. Because head coaches do that all the time with their access?

#2 NO you have it all wrong and even ESPN bogus show had Dawkins saying no money went to play players. As for the call with Miller, I bet Miller took calls from marketing people all day and probably couldn't name all of them and the propositions they would make. ESPN has Dawkins, telling a supposed real estate tycoon named “Jeff D’Angelo” that coaches didn’t have that kind of influence and it would be better to pay the players, their families or their travel team coaches DIRECTLY. The money Dawkins was giving out was to direct players to his firm. “We’re just going to take these fools’ money,” Dawkins said in the interview. NOW federal prosecutors in Las Vegas announced a criminal conviction involving one of the undercover agents in the bribery case. most of the case agents assigned to the infamous college basketball bribery case have either committed crimes, or acted, by the Government’s loose definition, ‘improperly’

#3 I am sure Miller went silent because higher-ups and lawyers told him to let the process work and then he could talk. As for his first comment, Sean and head coaches are called all the time by marketing and salespeople with this or that idea and remember them as far as the phone conversation lasts. And again Dawkins would have been talking about money to direct a player not to Zona but to his agency. If you listen to the conversation no time does Miller say, yeah, let's take that money and give it to this or that player either directly or indirectly, had he done that the feds would have gone after him because Will Wade and LSU are not the big fish.

I am not saying a coach doesn't mess up heck, fans mess up with NCAA violations all the time and I have seen it on this site, most of you don't see it because they are taken down. The exuberance that fans have over this or that recruit can sometimes work against the university, case in point X went after a certain foreign player a few years ago so much that Chris took a jet to Europe. The boards went wild and soon it was going to be the best recruit ever except he never did. Schools that recruit foreign players normally don't like to talk about them because the player would be presently playing for cash on a sports team. When the pro teams find out they up their money because many are losing players that want to come to the US and start at a college. The Zona boards were talking about that just as recently as within the last months.

You don't have to like Miller, I am sure it will make him lose sleep at night, but as I mentioned to some on this board you are in the USA which allows free speech but just like Twitter this is not a forum run by the federal gov., We can do something when you call OUR head coach or assistants a liar and cheat with no conviction as your proof. I call that defamation of character and the vote here is that the moderators agree with me.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

muskieman has cleared Coach Miller. FBI got it all wrong.

Those 5 Level 1 violations can now be dismissed.

Sean doesn’t need me to clear him the facts that we know have done it nicely including Dawkins after he was convicted with shady FBI tactics. I guess you don’t believe in innocent until proven guilty so I hope you are never arrested. It still doesn’t give you any right to slander Sean without proven facts on a messageboard. Let me make it clearer you will take a vacation if you slander him again
