WIN and going to MSG. Refs made it more exciting than it had to be at the end. Bonnies much better O team than Vandy
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Well.......The final seven seconds almost blew the B+ game Hayes coached. He subbed well for the most part, except in the final seven seconds. He made three pretty obvious coaching errors, I humbly say. First, why would Free be in over Odom, especially when it was obvious that Vandy had to rush it down the court? It is great Free was able to foul him, but Odom should have been in.

Then, with 1.8 seconds, they should have put Nunge at the top of the key, and put Hunter behind him, in case the ball was slightly overthrown. Even if Vandy caught a ball up high, there is no way to set and get a shot off.

Lastly, with one second left, Miles, who is three inches taller than Free, should have been in again.

I've been impressed with Hayes over two games, but it is at these moments that separate coaches like Hardaway, Ewing, and Brian Gregory, from the likes of Bennett, Wright, Drew, and Flint.

I selfishly hope Hayes stays, because I think he will help retain the current players, and hopefully bring in at least two of the three incoming recruits. However, I hope he gets a chance at the big chair soon. He is ready for a mid-major gig (i.e. Kent State, Tenn Chat, or UC).

I'll add another... When X tried to inbound with 1.8 seconds they should have gone deep like the one announcer said... Dan

Agree AH, he made some blunders. Especially not lining Jack deep with 1.8 seconds left and lobbing a high arcing pass to him. BUT - - - - The intangibles were tremendous. The intensity on the faces of the players during the huddles. (Missing down the stretch when Steele was addressing the team.) Freemantle is playing inspired, and although still far from stellar on D, he is at least scrappy on D and giving all he has. For instance, very late on a Vandy inbounds under the basket, Zach looks so fierce with his facial expression. As the ref is about to hand the Vandy player the ball, Zach quickly runs over to Nate and correctly positions him, then races back to his spot. Everyone but Stanley getting a few minutes, keeping all engaged. (is Stanley hurt or deeply in the doghouse?) Bottom line, Coach Hayes may make a few coaching head-scratchers, but this team is playing inspired "never say die" ball. And that my friends is much more important from a head coach than never making an imperfect decision.

I think Hayes did a good job last night and note he followed a lot of the TS script with subs.

Zach played intense last night and his D was very improved over prior games this season. Coming off the bench might be a good thing for him, without the need for disciplining. Remember he poked the ball away to another player a number of times or he stole it outright and he was all over the court guarding this or that player. He also ignited a number of fast breaks one with a great bounce pass to Jones.

As for the inbound play, it should never have happened had the ref not blown the whistle inadvertently but it is what it is. I too was calling for a play that would have gone deep because even if X would have fumbled it the chances of Vandy setting themselves and making a long shot is almost nill. Also, the bounce pass was not only to a tough spot on the court but it was a hard bounce that appeared to spin upward through Nate's hands. I don't know how many times X and other teams I have watched do that but it is frustrating. I am sure the guy throwing it in wants to throw a short pass because of being unsure of a long pass being intercepted. Maybe they thought a long pass might wind u in a foul call on X.

I like that Miles got into the game but I am putting the guys that got me to that point in the game in at the end and not experimenting with Miles who wasn't always that sure-handed at times this year. I liked that after half-time X put the clamps on SPjr who was killing X in the first half.

Now the guys have a chance to go to MSG where they have probably more experience than any other team in the tourney. They will be playing a team that I think is better than the teams X has played at home in the NIT. They shoot well and always stay close and within striking distance. They are experienced in the post-season and have had much success over the last few years. Their coach is a guy I would not have been upset getting had Sean not been in the mix. I use to have lunch with Mark from time to time during his stay at Xavier and learned a lot about the recruiting game from him. A really good guy.

One key to last night was holding Chatman to no points on 0-6 shooting. He average almost 8 points a game

Mman,

Just when you take two steps forward with a slightly coherent post, you take three steps back with a statement contorting reality into your sick, twisted narrative that Hayes followed T'S script with subs. Under Steele, Edwards got 2-3 45 second stints per game, and Miles has been on milk cartons for the two months. Also, he played a lot more zone last night because X couldn't stop the dribble drive and kept losing their men on switches. Steele often left Zac on an island where it looked like he was on roller skates. At least with Boeheim, his skill set will be maximized because he is a good offensive player (15 feet and in), and only has to guard an area playing zone all game.

I wish he would stay because Miller would find a way to maximize his effectiveness in 18-24 minutes a game. Haye's sub patterns are a lot better, save the last eight seconds as well, and is a better in game manager. I have no interest in pointing out T'S flaws, but you damaged the reputation of the MODs, leaving me no recourse, hence my take. Crisis averted.
