Re: Steele walks the plank
Despite wanting this outcome, I don't take any pleasure in anyone who loses their job, especially if the effort was there, which clearly was the case with Steele. Being a poor coach isn't a moral flaw. However, treating players poorly as I believed he did is. Lack of playing time is not mistreatment. Lying about why players aren't playing, saying things in public about how practice determines PT, then not living up to that standard (see Jason Carter and Ben Stanley), and his pompous, condescending statement about fans who want him gone probably did him in. Also, the empty arena and optics of throwing a consummate teammate and great person off the bench last night could not have helped. Good riddance. Leave with your healthy 7 figure package.
I hope X hires an outside consultant for the next search. I don't have faith in Christopher with his dismal record here, and not just in the basketball program. I will go support the players in the next game if in town.

X-Man,
Bruiser Flint has to top the list, no? That 6-24 final year at Drexel was a fluke. 8-9 more made buckets a game, and he is 16-14.

Hire Sean and give him a Lexus as part of the deal. Then it will please AH and Sky
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Steele walks the plank
Mille was my fave coach at X. The Lexus comments never bothered me a bit like most. The analogy wasn't inappropriate but hurt because it was us. Miller also never raided the cabinet of X players when he went to Zona. Matta probably said similar things about Butler when he came to X. It was so hard for Miller to leave X for a top 10 job and millions more, and we were still in the A-10! He would be my first choice, but only if he has been completely cleared, and if X had very stringent clauses in his contract.
I hope the recruits and current players can be retained, but this was a move that had to be made. I suspect Christopher got ***** from some key players in some way, not directly. I also suspect he has been speaking behind the scenes to some candidates. This will be a true test to see how effective he truly is.

I guess that Christopher contacted a search firm before the BE Tourney to gage the interest of quality coaches that are interested.

Your comment about taking no pleasure in the termination is spot on. A necessary decision for the sake of the Xavier University Basketball Program.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 2:12 pmDespite wanting this outcome, I don't take any pleasure in anyone who loses their job, especially if the effort was there, which clearly was the case with Steele. Hoping the fact that this action was taken indicates that AD Christopher understands the stakes, inclusive of for his own future. Indications are he recognized the need for 3rd Party assistance.
The fans could send a great message to the Administration, Team and future Coach by rocking the Cintas for the next game.

The search firm is mostly to give him cover and for vetting purposes but glad he did it. All the more reason Sean might have been at a recent game.
