Missouri: Fired Cuonzo Martin after five years. Martin's record was 78-77, including two tourney appearances, the last in 2021.

Rode Island: Fired their HC Cox after four years and zero tourney appearances. He was 64-55. Apparently, a 54% winning percentage wasn't good enough in four years........At Rhode Island......... To be fair (sorry, it is in my DNA), they made the tourney in 2017 & 2018, so were marginally successful compared to X in the same time period.

However, neither program had teams which were one and two seeds in the previous three years before assuming the job. Tom Crean and other coaches at major programs may look at both for a soft landing spot. More to inevitably come.

UPDATES

Two other changes:

Bruce Webber 184-147 and five tourney appearances in 10 yrs. He was spared the embarrassment of being fired, so he stepped down.

Mark Turgeon: 226-116. He had a 66% winning percentage in a very good league and five tourney appearances in ten years. He apparently stepped down due to the relentless criticism of the fan base.

Again, neither program had teams that were one and two seeds in the previous three years before assuming the job.

With some of the supposed players entering the transfer portal we will be a bottom tier team in the BE and stuck with a bunch of tweeners guarding bigger and better players. Make a change now before things get worse, which will.

Missouri has got big SEC money. Curious to see who they go after.

MA is the only one in this group who had any legitimate success before coming to Mizzou. The point is that recent, overall legacy success (2 decades) has at least as much to do with how most successful programs view opportunities, IMO., as do dedicated resources (private planes, personal chefs, facilities, etc). X's has a small endowment but is still highly profitable based on Forbe's Magazine's assessment. They also play in a high-revenue league, but obviously can't compete with the successful, major schools with football programs. X cannot go after the top-tier coaches like Self, Bennett, Drew, Painter, and Asst' Flint, but they did offer Mack more than $3M a year. The point is there are a lot of talented under the radar coaches who have experienced success as HC.s despite coming from low mid-majors (Beard, Underwood, Enfield, Wright, Drew etc), and assistants who have experienced success on staffs of successful head coaches (Tommy Lloyd, Hubert Davis, Sean Miller, Chris Mack).

There are a lot of coaches who I don't know well, but know their programs have achieved consistent success, whom I would interview the day after Selection Sunday (SD State's, Murray State's, Belmont's to name a few) and of course, highly coveted assistants like Bruiser Flint.

Bruiser Flint is NOT a highly coveted coach. Perfect example of someone who is a good assistant but shouldn't be a head coach. Ran UMass into the ground after Calipari left and also spent 15 years at Drexel where he won 53% of his games. Bruiser Flint and Travis Steele are basically the same.
