We need a coach.
Wow. How far can the program slide? This is crazy. Xavier built it's reputation on being a hard nose physical team. We lack the fire and energy the old teams were know for. We are soft both physical and mentally. For 30 years we have had tough big players. Hill, Strong, the A- Train, Brian Grant, Reynolds, Cole, Murphy, Gaston, West, Basketball Jones and the list goes on .Freemantle is the softest Xavier Big Man in 40 years. Scruggs and Freemantle make mistakes that NO Decent coach would put up with. Freemantle is unalert on defense and his feet are NEVER in a athletic stance to give him a chance to defend. Scruggs makes lazy one handed passes off the dribble that he telegraphs Every game. He gets trapped every time the other team presses. On offense he regularly wastes 10 t0 12 seconds dribbling in place. The defense doesn't even need to defend for half of every possession. Freemantle and Scruggs can make any lazy mistake without any bench time. Edwards is raw but he is a old school Xavier Banger. He fights and scraps in there. Stanley is another guy who doesn't get the time he deserves. Edwards should have been getting 10-15 minutes a game this year. Steele has had 4 years now. It is obvious he can't coach. Substitution patterns are awful. We start every game flat. No defensive help that I can see. It is obvious to everyone that he is in over his head as a Head Coach. Does anyone believe another top 80 program would hire him? if we bring him back it is hard to imagine a different product. If we lose the high ranked recruits coming in than so be it. We need to start over with a new coach.

I have been saying for 3 years that this guy isn’t an x & o coach ! But because our new school President doesn’t understand that XU is a basketball school she won’t fire him and we will be stuck for another year with mediocrity!

Re: We need a coach.
contrary to what this post says, our new Prez DOES understand the importance of basketball at Xavier and for lack of a better term, she's pi$$ed.
if she can find a way (as i said before, it's gonna take donors with deep pockets to get rid of him now because of his buyout) then it will happen.
not saying it WILL. just saying that she's working on it right now. if there's a way, she will find it and get it done.

Re: We need a coach.
Sean Miller made the comment after we lost here vs.SJU how he they got pushed around on their home court and that's something that never used to happen. Raftery commented on the fragile state of this team mentally on a few broadcasts. That's a reflection on the coach IMHO. Zero toughness . I watched some of the 2010 K ST game last night. That team had it all over this current team. There's not one current player who would start on that team. And Tu made 3 FT's to send that game to OT.We couldn't make one in the final minute to win Wednesday. This program is in a sad state right now

We shall see! I’m sorry if our dumb administrators give coaches extensions without results !longliveskip wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 7:42 amcontrary to what this post says, our new Prez DOES understand the importance of basketball at Xavier and for lack of a better term, she's pi$$ed.

Even though we have a relatively small (some may say baby) endowment, we can afford the buyout. The program brings a lot of attention to the school. It is probably the most important component of the school that draws students, donors, corporate partnerships, etc…. They cant afford to let it flounder for too long.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 8:06 pmLls speaks the truth.longliveskip wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 7:42 amcontrary to what this post says, our new Prez DOES understand the importance of basketball at Xavier and for lack of a better term, she's pi$$ed.

It is not possible the endowment is less 1% of what the payout would be unless T Steele makes $5M a year.Jesseandrippers wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:00 pmEven though we have a relatively small (some may say baby) endowment, we can afford the buyout. Re: We need a coach.
Looks like Jeff Borzello thinks like some on this site. This from an article on the coaching carousel…’ The other two high-major jobs we're watching in the next week or two will be Xavier and Butler. The Musketeers seemed to be in great shape six weeks ago, but then lost eight of their final 10 games and could be on the outside looking in for an NCAA tournament berth. That would be four years for Travis Steele as Xavier's head coach and zero NCAA tournament appearances (the Musketeers looked to be on the wrong side of the bubble when the 2020 season abruptly ended). For a program that went to 16 of the previous 18 tournaments, that's not ideal. If a move is made, keep an eye on former Xavier head coach Sean Miller.’. Wonder how recruits would view that if it were ever a possibility.

It is roughly $260M. Lowest on the BE.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:12 pmIt is not possible the endowment is less 1% of what the payout would be unless T Steele makes $5M a year.Jesseandrippers wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:00 pmEven though we have a relatively small (some may say baby) endowment, we can afford the buyout.
