the booing and other classless things
Booing your team is classless but accosting the coach's wife is downright obscene. We thought the Dayton fans accosting Chris' wife was bad but some ticketholders today were yelling at Travis' wife. I hope none are here on this message board.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

That is absolutely appalling. I assume you saw it live. What happened exactly? I never boo either, but I understand the frustration. Before Steele, X never finished below 500 in their conference in the last 36 years. Since his arrival, they have never finished above. It still is no excuse for that behavior though.

Amanda sits a few rows in front of us. Not sure exactly what happened but I think this couple in section next to her were running their mouths . A cop and usher came over. She was pretty fired up

What I have read on Twitter is consistent with your version Bluegrass. Mman, did you view the incident with blue colored glasses on? It is boorish in my opinion to boo or "accost" (my mentor's words, not mine) anyone, IMO, especially the wife of the coach. However Mman, you were not so forgiving a decade ago when fans were accosting Mick Cronin's family. Equally boorish no?

Re: the booing and other classless things
if you boo your own team/players/etc, you're a loser. it's that simple. there's no place for that or for saying ANYTHING to Travis' wife.
boo the refs. boo the opponent's players.
don't act like that towards your own team.
no place for it.
i get there wasn't much to cheer about on Saturday but don't go the complete opposite direction. that's just not right.

Re: the booing and other classless things
I strongly disagree with the overall sentiments so far on this thread. I gave up my season tickets two years ago since my buddy had too and my lovely wife told me she had no interest in taking his place. So I go to several games a year still, just not all. As a key disclaimer, the unique aspect of heckling Coach Steele’s wife is a different story and I deplore that as it has zero place, ever. But booing your program loudly in general at the end of a sustained run of lousy play at home, hell yes. It has its place. Allow me to unwind here a bit, feel free to click to next post if you become bored. But plain & simple, how else are the powers that be going to get the message? Sure, I could stop going and a % of season ticket holders could opt out next year, but those impacts take time – and time is of the essence. This is BIG TIME college basketball folks. Corporate sponsors, that do not grow on trees, and take cultivating plus success to lure. Huge contract with FS-1 and those folks are expecting more Nova’s in the league than DePaul’s I can assure you. Saturday’s giant egg laid with The Hall in fact was even on a bigger stage than FS-1, it was the national Fox game for goodness sakes. We aren’t in Kansas anymore. I went to the game about 10 days ago with St. Johns. Spent an entire Wednesday eve from driving down, attending, then driving 45 min home. The parking, which used to be free, was now charging $10. The seats a friend of mine bought were in the upper section 8 rows from the top. Still cost me $46, that is a fairly premium outlay of cash for upper deck viewing, but which I readily paid. I bought a round and some cheese coneys and now I am well over $80. All to watch a game I could have relaxed and watched with a better view from my couch in front of my 70 inch tele. So when I witnessed that St. John’s slop, and all that it entailed. (see the many critique’s submitted by y’all on that prior thread) I sure did feel like booing as I departed with over a minute left to play, but I did not. Although I heard several boos. Four years ago I posted after Mack announced, that among others we should interview Nate Oats. But those ‘Powers That be’ knew best, stayed in-house, relying in The Peter Principle. Maybe these recent “boos” will motivate the brass to try harder this time and get it right. Being polite is fine at your 4th grade daughter’s ballet recital, but again, we’z in the big circus now boys. Booing serves a key and much needed component when the straights get dire. And they is dire… If this trend continues, I want more booing on Senior Night, after rousing applause for the individual players. I want so much booing, (if we lose to St. John’s Wed. that is), that the AD is embarrassed. Because only then will they take this offseason seriously. Seriously enough to put high on the list a fellow like, oh let’s say: Jeff Linder, of Wyoming. Or one of many others out there on the rise with proven resumes at smaller programs. We deserve no less. X has risen far in past 40 years and has earned that, at least for now, unless we stay complacent and tolerate slippage, which can become a snowball cascading downhill in a New York second if one is not careful. So boo I say, if booing is warranted, sing it out for all to hear. Keep it aimed at the coaching & Admin, not the players or significant others. You pay these ticket prices, these concession prices, these parking prices, this expense of your time and your heart, and you have earned that right, in spades…

Re: the booing and other classless things
Booing 18 to 20-something year-old guys, especially when the team is on a slide, tells me you have a problem more than the players. They are not professional athletes for whom you are paying a hefty salary by way of your ticket price. Whatever perks they receive are not a justification for you to treat them like they were taking your money under some pretense. I have problems with Steele and do not have issues with people challenging him here. His failure is evidenced by the lack of player development over the season.
If the players are not as good as advertised or not as good as the competition, those are not reasons to boo them. I am not immune to questioning poor judgment on the court, but poor judgment may be a sign of a lack of maturity, low basketball IQ, nerves, pressing too hard, lack of talent, or most often poor coaching. Booing does not help that -- it only hurts the players (especially if they're just not as good as the competition). What kind of person does that?
Are you so entitled that you would kick these guys at any time, but especially when they are down? If Steele is the problem, isn't it possible the players understand that as well? Have you ever had a bad coach? While I am not a fan of the portal, it does offer a way out under such circumstances. You cannot just boo and say it is directed only at Steele. You are booing everyone on the team.
Maybe this is the sign that Xavier has reached that elite status: its fanbase considers themselves so entitled that booing kids is accepted behaviour because the fans feel they deserve better. This is not "classless," but the sentiments of an entitled class.
Booing Xavier players and harassing the families of anyone from the coach on down is never acceptable!

Re: the booing and other classless things
I actually don't even support booing Steele. Though it would obviously have some impact on the administration, the greater considerations IMO would be season ticket holders and overall tickets sales, merchandise sales. enrollment, endowment, etc... All things revenue related. For the record, I don't support booing coaches either. Like or hate Steele, being a bad coach doesn't make him a bad guy. He has dedicated his post-graduation life to being a bball coach and worked his way up. He has been with X for over 15 years and truly loves the university. I wish he was successful, but don't think he has the goods.
He is also getting hammered by some on this Board (you'll know when you receive a DM from me to schedule a one on one discussion) and Twitter. I have to say, he has handled it with a lot of class for the most part.

I’m his press conference I’m not sure he realizes the boos are directed at him vs players.
