Postby Xavier2005 » Sun Feb 20, 2022 1:41 pm

As of 2-20-2022 there are so many teams this year with 8 or 9 or 10 losses. And there is still 2 weeks of regular season left before the Conference tournaments start. There is a good possibility that many teams making the Dance will have 10 to 12 losses at a minimum. The Conference tournaments and how well teams do will be a major deciding factor for those in or out of the Dance. A lot of teams are just barely above average.

let's see what their Quad 1 and 2 wins and losses are
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

But how many will make it with a losing conf record and ending up in the bottom half of their league? Unless some miraculous turnaround occurs, X is not gonna be in. GT may be their only win left. I think the coach has lost his team. Don’t think they want to play for him. Just my opinion.

Big ten has 14 teams last tourney 9 made the tournament so two were in bottom half of the league just off the top of my head. When the Acc had 15 teams in the 2017-18 season they sent 9 teams 2011 Big east sent 11 and a year later sent 9 so some bottom half went and if you look some were under 500. Ohio sate was 8-12 in the big ten and made the NCAA in 2019

.500 (10-10) in the Big East and 19-20 wins overall = lock for tournament.
.450 (9-11) in the Big East and 19-20 wins overall = bubble, and you probably want to make the semifinals of the BE tourney to stay on the right side of it. But one win in the BE tourney is probably enough.
.421 (8-11) in the Big East and 18 wins overall = uncharted territory. Need to win the whole darn thing to have any certainty.

We have one wild card: the missed away game against Georgetown. If that gets rescheduled, we have one more very winnable game on the schedule. If it doesn't, what happens? I guess we get the W for seeding purposes in the BE tournament, but it has no direct bearing on Selection Sunday? Steele should be working hard to reschedule that game! His young career depends on it!

There is little doubt that another year of missing the tournament would result in the end of his tenure. That would be horrible for him, and probably even worse for X than Mack leaving.

Most of the prognosticators seem to feel like we will end up making it baring a complete collapse. It just tells you as poorly as X has played, there are a lot of equally bad teams out there.

That's a decidedly pessimistic perspective, not to mention one with little evidence to support... Whether or not more teams are closer to "average" this season or not and whether or not a lot of "bad" teams are on the bubble, I cannot say. No evidence has been presented on Musketeermadness (or anywhere else) to prove that. There MAY be a lot more parity this year. But that doesn't necessarily mean that teams are any worse (or any better) on average than previous years. Regardless, compared to the at-large field, the Big East is stacked and Xavier still has a solid resume. You can argue that the NET is a sham, but it is the most important metric for the Selection Committee. If the selection were today, we would be in. Easily. And, as disappointing as at least two of our recent losses have been, we would deserve it.

Having said that, we still control our own destiny. We can easily play are way back into a decent seed, but we can just as easily play our way onto the wrong side of the bubble. Unless we start coming out more aggressive in the first ten minutes and unless some leaders start to emerge, the latter could be more likely.
