So let's start with some Twitter crap
Wes Miller on his first Crosstown Shootout: “Listen, we know going to Norwood, going to Xavier who pronounced the opponent’s name “eggs-zavier. is going to be a new experience, but we’re going to lean into it, we’re going to be excited about it.”

Crosstown game thread
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Crosstown game thread
Mman,
Why even give oxygen to a cretin at a school where a clean bowling shirt can be used in lieu of an SAT score above 500 for admission? Even when they were good in the 90s, it was built on the backs of one of thee most corrupt coaches and programs in cbb's history, not to mention a team that fit more comfortably in the Folsom County Prison League. They even had 7 reserved parking spots at the justice center for the attorneys and family members to visit the felonious student athletes who often filled the cells. Their coach had scores of DUIs, many which were covered up by Alumni DA Joe Deters. Columbia Olds had to also give more their fair share of new autos to people after Huggins totaled theirs in drunken rages, and boosters had to line their pockets to keep it quiet. It's why they will forever be known as UNLV East.
At the same time, X simply graduated 100% of their players, filled the arena unlike the 60% capacity seen at the Slipper in Clifton Heights, despite have 1/9 their student enrollment and 1/2,000 or so of their alumni base. That's what happens when you have standards of achievement for acceptance.
On the court, they have been irrelevant for decades. I believe X has as many SW 16 wins in the last two decades, as UC has tourney wins overall. They were bottom feeders in the BE, and only had a good record when they played in a middling mid-major, like their football team, who would have three losses in either the B10, SEC, or B12 this year. But I digress.
X has dominated the series over the last three decades, even including the Huggins teams whose players were paid to attend, had entrance exams taken for them , had rules changed to allow their law breaking players to participate in conference tourneys (see Burton, Darnell) and had too numerous bball violations that would even make Jerry Tarkanian blush.
Wes Miller is a good bball coach on paper, but he did it in one of the lowest mid-majors in America. He beat Illinois showing promise, then lost to Monmouth weeks later. He was actually over the moon when he went form a good low mid-major, to a decent low mid-major in Cincy, b/c he tripled his salary. Like Brannen, of course he is going to pander to his base and make juvenile comments. It doesn't matter. Nothing to lose when you're at the bottom of the heap.
X will still always be one of the three top three games on their schedule, and both their bball and fball teams will realize what it means to have an SOS NOT in triple digits, when they join the Big12 (sans the best two football teams by far) and that is much warmer and safer on the mid-major side of the bed (see UC: BigEast:MCronin).
Beating X is almost a must, since UC only plays 3 or so really good teams a year (the equivalent of what their football team has in the past decade). With X, it's almost a lose-lose scenario. Unless we beat them by 20, the NET goes down. Major upsets happen, and it is their Super bowl, so losing by one will probably drop our NET by 10 points. Fortunately, X plays 12-14 NCAA Tourney caliber games a year, so a loss won't be defining. A win for Convict U will be make their season.
UCk, you're welcome for the opportunity.

Re: Crosstown game thread
For someone not wanting to give oxygen, your post was not only oxygen-filled; it was pure shootout material. Do you remember the guy that jumped out of the window and the player that took his roommate hostage and tortured him?
There was a shootout show recently, and the take on the show was a clip about the brawl that happened at least a thousand years ago. Of course, Doc's focus was Mark and Tu jumping on the media table in front of him after the game.
I hope X buries them, Tandy gets in and is low scorer for X with 15 points(5 threes)

Re: Crosstown game thread
I remember an article PDoc wrote after the Shootout, commiserating with Gates and his crocodile tears after he committed a felony agents K Frease. I emailed him personally and told him how I loved his articles throughout the years, especially the ones about sharing beers with Skip Prosser at their favorite pub.muskieman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 8:38 pmFor someone not wanting to give oxygen, your post was not only oxygen-filled; it was pure shootout material. I said how disappointing it was that instead of writing an article on the true hero, K Frease, who was a peacemaker only to be sucker punched and stomped by two of UC's garden variety thugs, he chose to crowbar a positive article about Gates. If not for the grace and empathy shown by Frease, Gates and the other cretin would have spent time in jail. He defended the article and said he wanted to point out the emotion of the rivalry and that they are still only kids. I told him that made Frease's actions that much more admirable. To his credit, he responded to my multiple messages and actually, kind of concede my point. Everyone on the board knows being right means nothing to me. Just wanted to point out who the villains and heroes were.
Regarding the UC player who jumped out the window, it was a wing who went to Roger Bacon H.S. Can't recall his name. Donald Little is the one who confused his roommate for an ashtray.

I sent Doc an email too. I included the picture of Gates fist clocking Frease in the side of his face showing the impact on his face. Doc said pretty much the same thing he said to you. I ran into him a few years later on business and he still didn't seem his article was wrong. Tough listening to a guy that thinks his crap doesn't stink

BTW,
Just remembered the wing that thought jumping out the 2nd story window was more convenient than walking downstairs through the front door: Eugene Land. I guess he just didn't want to impede the cops who were entering the premises.

Not sure I'm feeling sufficient energy out there troops? Maybe this will cure that. SOme may have already seen this but for those who have not, feast your eyes. My XU Senior daughter sent this. She said the whole campus is AMP'D up to eleven and the 'Tas will be off the hook.
