I heard that because of the Covid and possible not losing a year it will be more than ever who enter the portal

Makes sense. With approximately 350 NCAA D-1 Schools, probably an average of 4 Seniors per team, that equals 1,400 players who have another year of eligibility.

Now, we know not all will continue, but if 50% plan on staying in College, that yields 700 Senior players who are either blocking upward movement of underclassmen or Seniors who have been advised by their Coach that they will have less playing time next year.

Add those 700 extra players to the normal portal (as if anything is normal anymore) and plenty of extra players as reality says you cannot fit 4 1/2 classes on D-1 Rosters. Some fellows may find they are left out after entering the portal.

In the event DePaul reached out to Coach Kelsey, my sense it was a mere courtesy. That is not intended to be a slam against Coach Kelsey, or the intel posted on this Board, only my lack of confidence in the objectivity of the “search” that the new DePaul AD is undertaking.

Wishing Coach Kelsey much success at the College of Charleston.
