I wonder if Rick Pitino wants to come back to the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area.

I'd have to say that if some won't take back Sean Miller, Pitino is a no also... Dan

I wouldn't take Miller. I definitely would consider Pitino. He has the prominence to sway the recruits to stay as well. One of top X/O coaches in cbb.

Amen AH.! I would actively court Rick P. He obviously wants one more position in a major conference or he wouldn’t be coaching at Iona. Somebody is going to give him that chance, why not X. These opportunities don’t come along every day. In fact they hardly ever come to a program like X at all. This next offseason for X is easily the most critical since the hiring of Bob Staak. I would welcome the opportunity with a red carpet..

It's definitely intriguing... But could X come up with the coin to cut Coach Steele loose and pay Pitino the hefty figure he'll get on the open market... Maybe have a bake sale outside Cintas while it's a Covid center to help raise some funds... Captive audience... Dan lol

Pitino would definitely get us right back on our pre-Steele trajectory, and we might make the Final Four within 5 years. And I do not think we would have to take on the risk of our first Final Four appearance being vacated! I doubt Pitino will find himself in the same situation again.

I think that, like Miller, Pitino just wanted to win and became a victim of his environment. Louisville had a culture within its athletic department and a network of boosters that fostered rule-breaking. But Pitino at best turned a blind eye to that culture. At worst, he fully embraced it and attempted to shield himself from personal liability. I guess the only angle to justify hiring Pitino (or Miller) would be that everyone deserves a second chance, at least if we want to maintain high ethical standards. But this would imply an admission of guilt on Pitino's part, which I doubt he would be open to, even implicitly.

Otherwise, we would have to accept that we are no better than UK or UofL or UC.

I'd rather go for someone like Kelsey, if Steele does not make the tournament next year. Get a young coach who is generating buzz, not an old hall of famer who is desperately trying to bury skeletons in his closet and restore his legacy.

Or at least a clause in Pitino's contract that bars him from Sorrtento's... Dan

I could stomach Pitino as coach.. Put a clause in the contract that says, any funny business, you're history, and we're not paying the remainder of your contract. All he would need are some recruiters, because he's probably forgot more bball acumen than X's entire staff combined. He can't be making squat at Iona. But I also heard he's rumored at IU.
Same with Sean Miller, behave or you hit the door with no buyout. Both he an Pitino have made more than they ever could spend. So money might not be a factor.

It has been reported that Rick Pitino signed a five-year contract with Iona college which would reportedly pay him slightly less than the $1.1 million. Iona is his stepping stone back into coaching. If Hangdog Rick (that perpetual look on his face) really paid for a lover’s abortion, then I don’t want him anywhere near the X program
