My favorite X NIT memory is Skip calling a final time out to set up a play, and Lenny Brown immediately launching a 40 foot bazooka. A shame as X had battled back from a 20 point deficit.

It would be interesting if you are an alternative for the Ncaa tourney and somebody has to get out with Covid and you are playing in the Nit. I'm guessing once the tourney starts, no subs. Could create some interesting situations.

Correct, once the tourney starts, any Covid issue causes a forfeit. The other team moves on.

I am beginning to think that Steele and some in our athletic dept. are delusional enough to believe X is a top 40 talented club. That this last stretch of losing 5 of the last 6, ( 4 of those five to .500 or sub .500 opponents) was a mirage. Enough. The proof is in the pudding- and there is a HUGE bowl of vanilla pudding sitting on the table. Help yourselves.
So “No”
Stop, just stop. The time has come for introspection. For soul searching. Problems are never solved until problems are recognized and owned up to.

Vote No all you want because you know if the NIT comes calling X will roll out the basketballs... I say Yes, with a stipulation... Only play those players that will be returning next year... Dan

Cintas is now a covid center which might make it hard to have a basketball game

Was out visiting my folks and surprised to see this board where no one is asking the rather obvious question. "What is the real reason X opted out of the NIT?" First off, I am in favor of the decision, however, I do find it a bit unexpected. Obviously there is a chance Steele's statement is 100% truthful. I am old enough though to have learned that things are often not what they seem and the truth many times is obscured by a veil of fibs and spun narratives. So if we are to believe Coach, it is because they feel it best to concentrate on "individual instruction".... OK, I suppose. Yet there is a whole summer to have communicated individual instruction goals then expect each player to work on those areas of development on their own. I mean, that's what I did with my Junior High girls' teams each off season, and those kids took my list and worked on 'em. Seems like a weak cop-out cover story possibly to me. Again, I have no clue or insider knowledge, but would welcome anyone that has. I surmise there are two other possible explanations that seem more plausible than this flimsy one given and both are a bit troubling:
1) The staff allowed the players to vote and they decided they did not want anymore of this season.
2) There was a slow but steady breakdown in team chemistry the last couple weeks and Butler was a the cherry on top of the sundae. Causing the staff to feel it best to pull the plug on the season.
Because let's face it, only true Blue-Bloods such as UK, Kansas or Duke get to be believable and pass on the NIT. X has not ascended to that realm - at least not in my opinion. So again, food for thought, and I would hope Steele's statement is 100% true but seems awful fishy on the surface.
