Hey guys. So in a shocking turn of events, I was completely wrong on a specific take I had about Big East basketball. It was a while back, but you guys will probably still remember it because it was so egregious.

Here is my full apology for that take. Thank you for your consideration.

I don't think you need to apologize for anything. Assuming that is your true opinion, it is what it is. I don't necessarily agree with it but i do see where you are coming from. I do agree that few if any in todays Big East could guard Patrick Ewing effectively. That said, I don't believe Ewing could guard some of the 5s in todays basketball that can shoot from outside. He certainly can in the paint but not on the perimeter. That said, there are few in the country who could keep up with Iverson then and now. However, a lot of Big East guards today that are 6'4 would be tough for him to guard-particularly when they post up. It's a debate we will never know. I always love hearing fans from old Big East claiming how much better and tougher it was back then. Times change and todays brand of basketball is different. If it were still the same, Georgetown and St Johns would still be very good but have been the bottom feeders (along with Depaul) for a while. Villanova is very good but with a completely different brand of basketball-no Ed Pickney types.

I’m pretty sure you’re the first person who’s read that article and not said it’s the worst thing they’ve ever read, so I appreciate you! I do think there’s an argument to be made if you want to get into the whole “athletes are just bigger, faster, and stronger today compared to the past” but for now, I think it’s just best to respect the people who made the Big East what it was and keep it movin’.

Go stand in front of a mirror. Look at yourself. Do you see any cuts, bruises, burns, bleeding? Are all your extremities still working? Can you see out of both eyes, hear out of both ears, and still speak? Are you feeling ill? Need to see a doctor? No? Well then, what’s all this BS about getting “roasted”? You’re not damaged goods. You haven’t been harmed. If you’ve got a dog, I’m sure it still loves you. Has your home been taken away? Has your car been repossessed? Still have all your money? Still getting to do what you want to do? Then everything’s OK, relax!

Stop worrying about what people in an imaginary world...like Twitter and the rest of the internet....think. It’s NOT REAL! It’s not real DAMAGE! Who really gives a flying F what someone else on there thinks!? You gave your opinion, based on what you think it right. Stick to it. Don’t apologize. You didn’t insult anyone. You didn’t harm anyone. So you ruffled some feathers and got some people who obviously takes this all way to seriously upset. F’em! I swear some people on the internet act like you insulted their mother. Or like you hit one of their kids. You ain’t running for class President, these “likes” aren’t votes for public office or not guilty verdicts in a trial. Negative responses aren’t you being turned down for a job or having your book rejected by publishers. It’s NOT REAL LIFE! As soon as you turn off the phone, tablet, computer and walk away you leave that imaginary world behind and enter reality. Try it for a week and see if you don’t feel better.

One of my worst memories of Xavier basketball was "yo" Mark Kenstra (sp?) trying to guard Iverson in the NCAA tourney game, Skip having suspended Pete Sears and a couple of others.

it was Pete Sears and DeJuan Rose.

and it was Mark Smydra who had to come in and play a few minutes and got blown by twice by Iverson.

that one was tough, knowing how close we were to beating them even WITHOUT those 2.
