missing players

I know that ALL teams has roster problems but as MUSKIEMAN said in the recap post we have EIGHT players available. the NCAA screwed us on Stanley and Kunkel and with Wilcher and Jones out we are thin right now. That is four very good players not available. I am also concerned about Ramsey in that we never seem to get any info on him. When we prepare with all of them and then are cut short when the games start that has to hurt. XU just has to hope that at some point we can get to full strength. Go Xavier!

You won’t see Ramsey anytime soon he is hurt worse than they initially thought.

The issue of Covid compounds the issue even more. This is on Steele's risky management of roster construction. There was never any guarantee that either Stanley or Kunkel would be eligible. Also, Ramsey has played about three minutes since Steele said he should be back to normal around conference season when asked about Ramsey after the T-Giving tourney last year. I like and support going after both players, but not if I knew Ramsey would be a minimal contributor this year.
In addition to Covid, every year, teams deal with injury issues. Hopefully, both the latter and Covid won't hit X at the same time again, and that Steele's risk pays off.

Agree on your points here. i don't know if Ramsey ever plays at X but playing him 3 min in a game last year did nothing expect make him a sophomore this year. Huge waste of a year. To your point, X is not down 4 players but 2 scholarship players. Stanely seems tough but like you said, there were no guarantees. Kunkel was always a long shot even per Steele. God help them if Freemantle gets covid.

He has been out so long I don't think he can ever become a contributor at Xavier. Hopefully he continues to get his degree an pursue his career outside of basketball. Student athlete gives him 2 options to succeed.

When was the Adam Kunkle situation decided in the negative by the NCAA? I had not heard or read that anywhere.

Stanley not getting a waiver is a complete shock and only points out just how inept the NCAA is. Kunkel’s fate hasn’t been decided yet, although I don’t expect him to get a waiver, when dealing with the NCAA nothing surprises me anymore. I think that the medical people really thought that Ramsey would be a go this year. He was working out and practicing all off-season. Every indication was that he would be good to go this year.
Even without those players, if nobody is sick or not available to play because of exposure, they are still 10 deep.
When recruiting and building the roster LAST SPRING, nobody thought we would be in the situation with this virus that we are now...nobody. Hard to fault them for going on the advice of medical people and/or people who are charged with working with the NCAA. Hard to fault any one for not forecasting correctly what this pandemic would like like 6 months down the road.
But never miss a chance to take a shot at the head coach, right?

appreciate the update Kyzrex. Most folks on this board seem to know much more about the nature of Daniel Ramsey's injury. I myself was blindsided by the fact that he may be now out all year as I thought I had seen some postings of videos of him working hard this past summer. If possible, can anyone shed light on these two questions and thanks in advance:
1) What is the central injury?
2) If he has no chance to play this season, are we considering a redshirt?

The way I understand it, his "injury" is not really an injury but is more along the lines of a birth defect. His knee's are not aligned the way that most people's are. This causes a lot of stress on them. Basketball is already a game that puts a lot of stress on joints, particularly leg joints. The feeling was that with proper rehab and strength training that he would be able to overcome this defect. Others have apparently. But it is not responding to treatment and rehab the way they expected. I don't know that he will ever be able to play college BB, nor do I think anyone else does at this point. That's just the way it is with some medical conditions. You can follow all of the advice that the medical people give you, you can do all of the rehab, training, and medical procedures they offer and recommend, and still not get the results expected or desired. It's a shame really, BUT.....
Let's also remember a couple of past Xavier big men that really blossomed in their Senior years and became big parts of the team's success...Love and Farr. So don't give up hope!

Thx, had no idea. Very well explained. Must be so frustrating for Daniel. We shall keep the faith and hope the Good Lord smiles his way a bit on this.
