How many straight years has X missed tourney?

Someone stated that this could be the third consecutive year that Xavier missed the NCAA tournament.

Two things tell me that this is not possible: (1) No team in the country made the tourney last year--there were no selections; and (2) there is no way to know that Xavier would not have been selected, had there been a bracket.

How many "straight" years has Xavier missed the tourney(the NCAA tourney?). The answer would be 22 years. The NCAA mens basketball Tournament did not start until 1939. Xavier played its first time in the NCAA Tournament in 1961.....thus they missed it for the first 22 years. X did not get to the NCAA again till Staak brought X back to the NCAA tournament in 1979. So X missed the tournament from 1962 thru 1978 or 17 straight years of missing the NCAA. Thus the straight long missing streaks are 22 years and 17 years....no NCAA. Xavier did play in an NAIA tournament in 1948 and also the NIT in 1956,57, and 58. The only National title is the 1958 NIT.

PS last year there was NO way Xavier would have been selected for the NCAA Tournament ..their record was bad and they LOST their first game in the Big East tournament.

Truly, this reply suggests disorientation or derangement on the part of its author.

1. there may not be an NCAA tournament this season 2020-21 ....due to the Pandemic. 2. If there is an NCAA tournament, I seriously doubt Xavier's record will qualify X for it. X would need to finish in the top 4 within the Big East. I do not expect that to happen. I would love that X does finish in the top 4, but doubt they can make that happen. Just an opinion.

Why do you think the BE only gets 4 in the tourney?

4 versus 5 BE in is obviously just a guess estimate. However, last year 2019-20 Bracket projections had only 4 BE teams in for sure and a 5th BE was just among the last 4 teams in the field. However, that 5th BE team in the last 4 teams in projection lost their first game in the BE tournament(thus they would NOT have been among the last 4 teams in). Thus last year only 4 teams were guaranteed in before the Conference tournaments were to be played. That 5th BE team on the bubble , among possible last 4 teams in was Xavier!!! Xavier lost to DePaul in the first round of the BE Tournament....and DePaul was 3-15 for the BE regular season. That X loss in the BE tournament killed any chance X had for making the Dance and March Madness.

Generally I'd agree that 4 teams should be the assumption for BE team in the tournament. Certainly 5 will happen often and 6 on occasion but prior to games being played, 4 is the right assumption.

I completely agree X had no chance of making the tournament last year. This year is a different story assuming games are played. X may fall short but there is potential. Coach certainly needs to improve. Freshman need to be game ready and returning players need to up their game.

I expect the college basketball season to start , but due to the Pandemic, I expect NO March Madness Tournament.
