Jeff Battle's wife passes away

Postby Mr. Neutral » Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:05 pm

I'm sure we all remember Jeff as an assistant at X, who then went to WF with Skip, and stayed on with Dino. Our condolences to Jeff and the Battle family.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- The wife of Wake Forest assistant basketball coach Jeff Battle has died of lung cancer.

Joyce Battle died Wednesday. She was 44.

Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman called her "an exceptional person who lived her life with a tremendous amount of dignity." He credited her for "the tremendous example she set during this fight."

She played guard in the 1980s at Fayetteville State, averaging 6.1 assists per game in 1983-84, and was an assistant coach at Delaware State, where she met Jeff Battle. Most recently, she taught and coached basketball at a middle school in Winston-Salem.

My condolences to him and his family.
That's a rough situation and I speak from experience. My wife also passed away quite young - she was 40.

They found out about the cancer just before Skip took the job at Wake and she has been battling that terrible scourge for years. She was a sweet and wonderful woman and all the Xavier nation mourns her passing.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Makes me thank God for the additional time and wonder why the good have to go so early. It also makes me hug my kids and grandson and of course my wife even more. God bless her and look after Jeff. Requiescat in pace.

My prayers go out for the repose of the soul of Jeff's wife. May she enjoy her eternal reward in heaven after so many years of suffering here on earth.

So sad to lose the love of your life at such an early age.
Prayers are with you Jeff and may she rest in peace.
Skip will care for her Jeff until you rejoin her.
