Seems like a really good get considering he’s a redshirt sophomore so will have two years left but already kind of has 3 years of experience.

He shot 51% as a freshman and 48% this season as OU’s leading scorer. He put up 16-5 on a crisp 5/7 shooting night as OU lost to buffalo by 3 at the end of the season.

He’s not a great 3 point shooter (at 34%) but did improve from 20% to 34% between his first and second seasons so he seems to be working on it.

Should be a versatile 3/4 that can score and potentially even spell tyrique for a bit.

34% is more than respectable for a stretch big. No one can replace Hankins, but JC adds an element which will really benefit Jones and our slashers, and that is to take a big out of the lane, a la Kantner, who shot 33% from the field. Hopefully, he continues the trend of X landing one of the top ten transfers in the country in consecutive years in Kanter and Hankins. Well done.

Looks like he did. 17 points in 35 minutes on 6-12 shooting.

Seems like a really nice/important get for X. Our front court is thin next year and if he can provide some valuable minutes at the 4 it'll help Jones a lot, and help take some pressure off the freshman.

You’re right, I was probably a little rough on him bc I generally think of the 40% benchmark set by the greats like bluiett. 34% is good for a 4 and a welcome addition.

Gates was the stretch 4 that we really missed this year, maybe more than anyone even realizes. hopefully JC fills that void in our offense a bit.

and now that i think about it - X is easily an NCAA tourney team if Gates stayed. oh, well.

Doesn’t appear to be the “stretch” type of forward, based on the video and his stats. More of a driver and postup type player. Lots of moves around the low post. Only took 2.2 3-pointers a game and made .7 per game. Averaged 6.7 rebounds per game, and you don’t do that by hanging around the outside. Looks to be able to catch on the outside and then drive to the low post area, doesn’t need to just set up low and be fed.

I like this pick up very much, but I don’t see him adding a lot to the outside shooting ability of next year’s squad. However, I really think that KyKy and Bishop are going to help A LOT in that area, so he might not need to. He will give X some additional inside experience and proven ability to score and rebound. Something that after the graduation of Hankins, X really needed.

If Kennedy and/or James leave, look for an additional pickup that will address that area of concern. I hope they both stay, but in today’s college basketball world you have to expect a transfer or two loss every year.
